Schools like WashU and Brown

Hi everyone,

I am a rising senior looking for more reach schools similar to WashU and Brown. There are two main things about these schools that I really like:

  1. Intelligent and intellectual student body that is also relatively non-pretentious and collaborative.
  2. Moderately sized school that is in civilization- aka near a large town or city, but still with a campus with trees and green spaces.

Does anyone have suggestions for similar schools with these two qualities?

Tufts and Northwestern come to mind (both on D’s shortlist). D also liked Vandy and Rice. Rochester for a match rather than a reach, depending on your stats.

Thanks so much, @EllieMom!

Its hard to explain, but I just got a bad vibe from Tufts. I don’t know much about Northwestern or Rice, so I’ll look into those. I don’t want to do Greek life in college, which is why I haven’t been looking at Vandy. Rochester is on my list, and is one of my top match schools.

Any others, anyone?

William and Mary? Gtown? Macalester? GA Tech (depending on major)? Emory? Northwestern? URochester? Fordham (perhaps as a safety)? If female Barnard (Barnard itself doesn’t have a traditional campus but Columbia is right across the street and does)?

I would also try the supermatch tool on the left under find a college.

I know this question is about potential reach schools, but as a bit of unsolicited advice, be sure to spend the time to find match and safety schools you love as well.

Wesleyan, the Claremont Consortium (taken as a whole, though Pitzer or Pomona or Scripps if female might be the specific ones to consider), U Chicago
