I have a friend that grabbed a full tuition from Regent University due to a filmmaking scholarship opportunity. Do any of you guys know of any of the other opportunities out there? Can anyone direct me to some scholarship opportunities that less-then-average schools offer for filmmakers? I do not want to major in film, and am looking more into smarter, better investment degrees, but i would not mind a minor in film if that will allow me better merit aid. I am fully planning to start film clubs and produce films while in college.
So, as someone who needs at least full tuition, does this make sense? Do any of you know of scholarships that I can use?
Just for giggles: 31 ACT, 1440 (cr+m) Sat, and i’m not sure if i can put my films up or not so i wont…but i have plenty of experience and knowledge.
(Yes, I know I am in the clouds, so I have already applied to 5 commuter schools that I will be able to enroll in with full tuition/rides. Safety is on)
If you have at least a 3.5+ weighted GPA, then your 1440 would get you free tuition at Alabama.
The Alabama film students have been having very good success, including winning back to back Best Picture awards at the Hollywood Campus Movie Festival competition in 2013 and 2014.
In 2015, won Best Editing and were runner-ups for Cinematography and also for Production Design.
With your SAT, Temple will give you free tuition if your weighted GPA is at least a 3.8. I actually know two boys who are majoring in filmmaking there because they can go tuition free and graduate with no debt. My understanding is that it’s a decent, well regarded program.
And those aforementioned schools will give these scholarships for the required stats, so you can major in whatever you like once there. But if that is an interest of yours it’s good to know that they have good film programs.
Those are great options, and I will be looking into them:)
But, I was wondering if there were some not-so-hot film programs that are looking for revitalization with some talented students, and whether that might allow me a full ride type situation.
Of course. I can always produce one as well. But the Regents Scholarship actually was discontinued last year, so that is why I am asking for others. Iv’e searched quite a bit online, but haven’t found any that sound like that.
Well, I might have phrased it wrong, but I do know personally one person that was able to obtain a full ride because of exceptional filmmaking skill, and another lady that was able to present her brand as one that was passionate about film and planned to begin a film society to bring that presence to the university, and was given a full tuition to Seattle Pacific University. So there are at least two situations, and I was just trying to find any others out there, either officially or unofficially, that I could jump on.
