Schools Outside US

College Majors Music Major

<p>What music schools are known outside US. In the top tier league (equivalent to NEC, Curtis, Eastman, Indiana, Julliard)</p>

<p>I know that McGill in Canada is pretty decent and so is Royal College of Music in England. </p>

<p>Anyone know other top notch schools outside the US.</p>

<p>Also, how good is the McGill music program overall, heard they have a new building/facilities and all.</p>

<p>In no particular order, some that come to mind are:</p>

<p>the Paris Conservatoire
the Conservatories in Moscow and Saint Petersburg
Hochschule fuer Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin,
the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College and the Guildhall School, all in London,
the National Academy of Saint Cecilia in Rome.</p>

<p>The Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria -- except it's more the equivalent of a grad school.</p>

<p>Any thoughts on McGill? Just wondering, how the schools are in Canada, and how they compare to their American counterparts.</p>

<p>My D (violinist) has several friends from her youth orchestra who matriculated at McGill this year. We are eagerly awaiting their fall break visit to get their impressions. We visited this summer and found the new facility quite impressive. It's definitely something my D plans to investigate further over the coming year (she's a junior) There is an amazing amount of musical activity going on there.</p>

<p>DS has some friends at McGill and they love it there (music majors). He did a study abroad at RCM and loved it there too.</p>

<p>I was just on the McGill website tonight - it does look worth pursuing. Does anyone know if Music Ed leads to accepted credentials for licensure in the U.S. as well? I e-mailed the admissions counselor, but you folks are often faster!</p>
