I am currently a senior in high school right now. I LOVE boston college and I think it would be a great fit for me, however, it is a reach school for me. I am looking for options that are similar that I could add to my list.
***An important part of my college selection is I am only looking at colleges that have a BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing) program.
My stats:
-3.9 GPA (unweighted)
-2 APs
-Attending a highly regarded all-girls catholic hs in California
-ECs: volunteer work, babysitting, piano
Things I like about BC:
-safe pretty campus near a big city
-on the coast
-focus on academics
-lots of clubs, student engagement, not a big focus on partying
-nice people & atomsphere
-good size (not too big or small)
-jesuit
-love boston
Other schools already on my list:
-USF
-Seattle U
-Fairfield U
-U of Portland
Most if not all of the schools you have listed are very expensive (especially BC as a private school, idk if they meet full need or not,) so look into public in-state schools or those in states that offer a lot of scholarships (such as AZ,) or run the financial aid calculators if applicable.
Several of my D’s friends go to the University of Scranton (PA) for health majors, and they Love it there. I know it might seem like an odd suggestion because it’s not in a big city and it’s not exactly on a coast, but it is a Catholic school and it does have a BSN program. Her friends said that their science building is amazing, and they are just so happy there, that I think it is worthwhile to check it out as a “likely” school.
@adelaidemonroey check out Fordham in NY. It looks like a mini BC, although not sure about their nursing program. Also would suggest Villanova. Good luck!
@Solstice155 Fordham does not have a nursing program.
This may be a good list to look through (not so much for the ratings but it is a list of Catholic colleges which offering nursing). https://best-catholic-colleges.com/nursing
If cost is a consideration, I wouldn’t take on six figures in debt for a nursing program at Villanova (when your local state university or cheaper program can land you in the same place post grad). Also, you mentioned for your pros for BC “not a big focus on partying.” This is not really true. BC is a big party school and so is Villanova.
Villanova is a party school? My nieces & nephews nickname for the school is Vanilla No Fun because it has very little diversity and so few parties. Interesting how people think differently.
Another point about Villanova is that it’s Augustinian rather than Jesuit. I’m under the impression from one of my D’s friends who goes there that the Augustinians are more conservative and more literal than the Jesuits. Villanova is a terrific school and I’m not knocking it at all. Just pointing out that I don’t think it’s a party school, and it feels more religious than a Jesuit school would.
“Villanova is most definitely a party school, but the dynamic is much different compared to stereotypical party schools (Syracuse, UMich, Clemson etc.) because we don’t have Greek row. All of our houses are off campus (very, very fun) and every frat also has an apartment in the courts that they throw smaller parties in (also very, very fun).”
Look at Holy Cross, I have no idea about the nursing programs there though. Loyola Marymount seems to tick all of your boxes as well, again don’t know about BSN. Gonzaga too add to your other Northwest schools?
