i have a good friend who is kind of in denial about the college selection process, so i'm trying to help her out by finding some schools that are good for her.

right now, she really loves colorado college. she likes the alternative, artsy feel and the fact that you only take one class at a time there. she also loves the location.

she has a 33 ACT and a 2040 (i think) SAT

she's a very good writer, so her essays should be good, but her GPA is a bit low.. she has a 3.45, which for our school is probably about the top 45%, though that's just an estimate.

right now she's very closed minded about location. she lives in seattle and loves the climate here, and is willing to explore places on the coasts and beautiful places like colorado with mild temperatures.

does anyone have any suggestions?

I think The Colorado College is a one of a kind with its block schedules. Students who checked out The Colorado College also checked out Lewis and Clark College and Reed College in Portland, OR.

well i know cornell college in iowa also has block schedules, but she's really turned off by the iowa part...

bump

any info would be great!

i was planning to apply to Colorado College, but i went ED to Whitman. i'm from the seattle area as well, and Whitman fits her criteria of artsy, alternative, and beautiful location/campus. plus ~half the kids come from WA, so you'll have friends nearby over the summer and after you graduate. the alumni connections are really strong around here too, and the school is well known. have her check out whitman.edu for some pictures, the campus is really beautiful. other schools that i think fit the criteria are

Lewis & Clark
Reed
Kenyon
Bard
Macalester
..i'm sure there's more. most colleges are artsy and alternative haha. but anyway, a lot of these will be reaches, so she should pic a school apply to apply ED to help her chances.

thanks! i'll pass on the suggestions to her

colorado college is pretty dang unique...she probably won't find a school offering the same thing anywhere else. If it's for location, then I guess Boulder is the best school around that fits her, and I agree with the suggestion of Reed. If it's for the block plan, all she's got as an alternative is Cornell College, which is a downgrade.

my friend got in colorado college with a 3.2, but he had alot of activities and an almost perfect sat. he was waitlisted at first but then sent in his ap scores (he took alot and got 4s and 5s, even in classes he didnttake) and was admitted

I know that s many of the kids who applied to Colorado College also applied to Skidmore College, and choose to attend there over Colorado.

For that alternative, artsy liberal arts college experience on the mountainside that so many kids at are school seek (as of a continuation of what my mountainside boarding school was):

Colgate University
Skidmore College
Colorado College
Hartwick College
Green Mountain
