Which colleges would you say are similar to Miami? Why?

I am curious to the answers of this question too

If by similar you mean medium-sized, state-supported schools with smaller, college town location and above average academic reputation, then here are a few comparable universities:

College of William and Mary
James Madison University
Auburn University
Clemson University
University of Mississippi (also ironically in Oxford)
College of Charleston (not really a small town but very similar vibe)
University of Delaware
University of Connecticut
University of Vermont
University of Oklahoma
University of Kansas
University of Oregon
Cal Poly SLO
Many of the other MAC schools (Ohio U, BGSU, Kent St., Ball St., Central Michigan, N. Illinois)

Much larger schools but also have similarities to Miami: Indiana University and University of Maryland CP

I’m a Miami alum and I’ve been on campus at most of the schools listed. Some are more similar to MU than others for a variety of reasons, big-time sports being one important differentiator.
The most “Miami-like” school I have personally come across is Delaware. The schools are amazingly similar except for the cultural differences between East Coast and Midwest students. I’ve got family alumni from Delaware, Oklahoma and Cal Poly so I can speak most strongly to those schools.

Having said that, there’s only one Miami… Love and Honor.

I would add Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Small private school with similar vibe and caliber of students. Many Miami U students joke that it is the ‘Mini Miami’. Ohio U is honestly the only MAC school I consider similar to Miami (because of its campus) - but not the student body or academics.

I agree with this. In fact, both Denison and Miami have similar architecture – lots of red brick buildings. On the other hand, Denison is on a hill (a very steep hill) while Miami is on very flat ground.

I would disagree about Miami and OU having similar campuses, however. Almost no similarity. Interestingly, seems to me that those two campuses also reflect their students. OU is like your favorite pair of blue jeans; relaxed and comfortable. Miami is like a pair of starched khakis; a bit stiff and making a fashion statement.

Personally, I have never been on a campus which reminded me of Miami. I guess of all the universities that I have visited, Indiana University in Bloomington would come closest in similarity to Miami. More relaxed though. Although bigger, IU does not feel that big.

The OU campus reminds me of where I went to college; Auburn University.

NROTC, IU and Miami seemed very different to me. IU is red brick (which I like) and IU was HUGE limestone buildings. It’s the only campus I’ve ever been on where the buildings were kind of intimidating. Maybe it was the light or something, because the second day it wasn’t as noticeable, but at first IU felt kind of " creepy" to me. (And I’m a parent and have visited MANY schools).
