Schools similar to Uchicago? Or any other ideas

I would put Rice University in the mix.

Northwestern? Not right in the city but very close and the city is accessible via free shuttle. It certainly has a lively athletic and Greek scene.

The idea that UChicago is a place where students study “ALL” the time, or is a “VERY VERY” challenging school needs to be put to rest. Chicago is probably more serious at the undergraduate school than most places, but it’s certainly in the same ballpark as most of its peers. Here’s a glimpse (from a student-generated site) of average GPA’s by department:

https://canigraduate.uchicago.edu/statistics.php

The data set isn’t complete, but indications point to significant grade inflation at Chicago, especially in the humanities. Econ majors probably have about a 3.4-3.5 GPA (hardly awful), and fully 50% of all Econ grades given out are in the A range. Even more tellingly, the English, History, Sociology etc. departments all have an average GPA of about 3.6 (with nearly 2/3 of all History Department grades being in the A range!).

UChicago is probably a bit lower than some of its peers here (the average Econ GPA at Columbia or Stanford is probably in the 3.5-3.6 range), but they are all fairly closely grouped together. Nothing from this data suggests a school that is overly punishing. The students might like to complain and talk about how difficult the school is, but the data really suggests otherwise.

If you were admitted you should be able to handle the course rigor. After all 98% of the entering class graduated. Do not scared to yourself not to take on the rigor.

I just started a thread on u of c forum and pointed out that more than 80% of the graduates in the College have an Gpa above 3.25. That is Not grade deflation at all.

Columbia comes to mind as the school most similar to U of Chicago. I don’t understand why people think Penn would be similar to UofC. Sure, they’re both super-elite institutions with similar prestige levels, but we’re talking super pre-professional atmosphere vs super intellectual atmosphere.

My friend said that the average GPA at UofC is about 3.4-3.5, which I would think is about the same at Penn or Columbia.
