Schools that are cut-throat, competitive?

Just out of curiosity, what are some schools that CCers think are cut-throat, or super competitive?

bump........

Berkeley comes to mind.

Hopkins, especially if you're pre-med.

and WashU if you're pre-med.

well, I suppose EVERY school if you're pre-med.

okay, so clearly this was a useless post.

^ Not necessarily...

Hmm... I'd have to say USxA

Definitely Hopkins.

Berkeley has to be the most cutthroat.

Berkeley is both cut throat & grade deflated. JHU is not grade deflated so it's not as bad.

That's such a rumor about Berkeley being cutthroat. In certain majors, perhaps, and pre-med also (which is common at many schools). But really, it isn't.

princeton - grade deflation, penn wharton - insanely cut throat

^ I'm pretty sure princeton practices grade inflation

uhhh no...pton is most definitely a grade-deflation school.

as in, only a certain percentage can get a's, no matter how many deserve it.

Princeton.
Johns Hopkins but they say it's a myth...

The right answer to this question is that the school you're attending is not cutthroat, while the one you thought about attending but didn't attend is incredibly cutthroat.

More reality:

Wharton students are some of the most highly sought-after graduates in the country and abroad. Last year, 87% of our seniors got the job they wanted before the end of their fall semester.

Translation: no need to be cutthroat. :)

It's called a curve, which most colleges have.

The degree of competitiveness is much more different b/w majors than b/w schools.

I actually like Berkeley's image of being cutthroat...if anything, it limits the amount of whiners and academic wusses.

i've heard hopkins is the most cutthroat considering the immense competition among pre meds. i've heard students sabotaging each other is commonplace there. i've also heard that it has one of the highest suicide rates...

i'm an incoming pre med at berkeley. not really sure what to expect...
