Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern in the Big 10. U Washington out west.

I think Northwestern is "in", but I don't see it having a sharp decline anytime soon.

Also, yields are decieving; there are several things schools can do to raise their yields (take more people ED, shrink their entering classes, etc)

If Northwestern were the size of Princeton, the two schools would have pretty much the same yield.

Elon, Indiana and UF

San Diego State University

For Fall 2007, they received more than 57,000 applications and that number is only going to increase in the coming years.

NYU! New York city is so hot right now, and in my area, at least, that translates to NYU being really popular. My grade sent 7 or 8 people there, out of a class of only 86 (and this included some people who applied early to NYU, despite defintitly having at least a shot at the Ivies and other such tippy-top schools).

Stanford is definitely in. Their yield is now about 75% and their acceptance % keeps going farther and farther down. They could fill their class every year more than 4 times over with 4.0+ candidates. 1400+ kids applied for 20 transfer spots this fall (1.4% acceptance). Very hot at the moment.

"Well, as far as Rochester is concerned, I know several kids that chose Rochester over Tufts, Vassar and Princeton."

i know a kid this year who chose Cal over a full-ride plus another year worth of scholarship at Rochester. i wouldn't say that was the smartest thing to do, but that seems to be where Rochester stands in terms of prestige.

but frankly, i don't see why any student would choose Rochester OVER Princeton. i say this not only based on prestige but academic merit, environment and student body. Rochester simply does not have a desirable campus environment or student body compared to that of Princeton.

same goes for San Diego State University. surely, if SD State is considered "in," all of the UCs should also be considered so.

i agree with Weskid, NYU seems to be gaining popularity across to the country and internationally, to an extent, due to its location mainly. but i wouldn't say it attracts the top students who could aim for the ivies.

i understand this thread is being affected by alma mater, but if we remove ourselves from our community and of our school pride, it's easy to see that the schools that are "in right now," aside from the ivies, are schools like Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, the top non-ivies that attract and compete for the top students nationally and internationally.

I would agree that Stanford may be the hardest school to get into right now. Our D was accepted at HYP & all other schools where she applied EXCEPT Stanford. We are not complaining - but it makes me think it is the most difficult. Nobody from her school or any of the other nearby schools was accepted. So - for those of you CCr's who were accepted - we are in awe of your success!

Elon is hot right now, U of Rochester, Temple, and Penn has improved its yield with some well conceived strategies - more ED and more from waitlist.

^Stanford acceptances are often like that. That won't accept anyone from a school/region, but they accept many from others.

For example, they accepted no one from my school for 6 consecutive years, yet this year they accepted 5 out of 7 students that applied, several of whom were very surprising admits (didn't get into Ivies)

I think WashU is currently "in". Personally I didn't know much about WashU except that it was in St. Louis but then I found out like 1/2 my school applied there.

Wesleyan seems to be popular with a lot of posters on CC.

Duke,Penn, NYU, USC, UChicago. LAC's-Amherst, Williams, Davidson, Bucknell, Holy Cross.

"That Hansel is SO hot right now!"

It had to be said.

Brown, Duke, Wesleyan, and Boston College always seem to be in. USC is in, and will become more in every year.

yes, i totally agree with OneMom about USC.
i hear a lot of "USC is really good" recently. :)

Agreed, USC has been on quite a roll over the past 5 years. The school has some serious momentum.

" "That Hansel is SO hot right now!"

It had to be said."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

USC and NYU are gaining popularity because they are in two cities that every teenager aspires to live in, LA and NY. It's possibly an effect of too much television.

I still think neither of the two attracts top students who could aim for the Ivies and top schools like MIT, Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, etc.

"USC and NYU are gaining popularity because they are in two cities that every teenager aspires to live in, LA and NY. It's possibly an effect of too much television."

i agree, i've heard so many of my friends, most of them girls, say, "omg it's my dream to live in SoCaL! i'm EDing for USC."

im so happy someone said that hansels so hot right now after that nyc comment. that would have festered in my mind for weeks.
