I'm interested in Princeton. Is it true that they do not consider HS Freshman year grades at all?
And do most schools, Princeton in particuliar, recalculate your GPA when they receive your application?

I know U Michigan, and Stanford defintely don't care about HS freshman grads, but what about princeton and others?

They do look at freshman grades, but they are not weighed in nearly as heavilly (they like to see improvement over the years). It's cuz 9th grade is a "transition year". I've also heard they do recalculate your gpa for you in some manner.

They really don't seem to look at them all that much at most schools, but if there's something you only took that year they might consider it.

Junior year counts the most. I also think that if you take any honors/AP courses they look at them no matter what year it is.

There is one case where I might look at freshman grades--let's say someone gets over a 4.0 as a freshman in HS and slips to a 3.80 or so as a sophomore thanks to a C in a tough subject--we'll say chemistry. I'd look at the other grades freshman year to see if this was just a bad year or something. Usually people improve sophomore year, but it seems like many people I know have all slipped sophomore year, either academically or socially. If it's academic, they just might look at the history. Just a thought though.

I believe princeton doesn't initially use your freshmen grades but if you're a border candidate they will. I'm not too sure of the accuracy of this though.

i corresponded with someone, and they said they look at the GPA your school provides, and then recalculate it without freshman year grades... now my question is what if i took a high-level cp course as a freshman (honors precalc/discrete math)?
