Schools that give good merit aid for 30 ACT!

Hello,
I urgently need to find schools that will give me good merit-based aid. I won’t receive any need-based aid due to my parents earnings, but they won’t be supporting me financially at all with tuition costs.

I have a 30 on my ACT; I have a 3.63 unweighted gpa, and a 3.82 weighted gpa. I am Hispanic if it helps.

Please list any colleges that will give me good merit-based aid!! I don’t want to drown in debt.

Thank you!

In what state do you live? There may be state schools that will give merit for stats.

I live in Ohio. I have already applied to Ohio University and Bowling Green State University for my Ohio schools.

Does “SMU” refer to Southern Methodist University?

So how much do you need? A full ride - $5500 federal loan?

I need close to full tuition. Like having $5000 worth of tuition per year

Your parents will pay your $15-20K room and board though?

Are you going to retake your ACT?

You will get an automatic scholarship at Alabama worth 2/3 tuition for a 30 ACT and >/= 3.5 GPA. Check out the pinned thread on the first page of the Finacial Aid forum which will direct you to more scholarships, both competitive and automatic.

No my parents won’t pay anything, and no I’m not retaking my ACT. I have taken it 3 times total.

^ Then you’ll need to get a job so you can bridge the gap between your student loan of $5500 and the remaining costs. Look at the automatic full tuition thread and see how much is left. Run the Net Price Calculator on different school’s web sites.

PLEASE be more clear. You say that your family isn’t paying anything.

THAT MEANS that you need CLOSE TO FULL RIDE…not just tuition. You’re not going to pitch a tent on the quad and graze on the lawn.

With an ACT 30, I think you might get a full ride or close to it from Troy University.

Is the ACT 30 from ONE sitting or superscore? Merit is usually based on a single sitting.

Have you taken the SAT??? You might do better on that.

Troy Univ

The Millennium Scholar’s Award
Pays full tuition, room and board. Requirements are 32 ACT and/or 1420 Old SAT 1 (CR & M only) or 1470 New SAT and 3.7 GPA (4.0 scale) or a National Merit Finalist.

The Chancellor’s Award
Pays full tuition. Requirements are 28 ACT and/or 1260 Old SAT 1 (CR & M only) or 1320 New SAT and 3.5 GPA (4.0 scale).

Since you have an ACT 30, perhaps Troy would give you more than just free tuition.

That said, you should try the SAT and see how you do.

" I won’t receive any need-based aid due to my parents earnings, but they won’t be supporting me financially at all with tuition costs."

So your parents have an above-average income, but will pay nothing towards college? Why?

That’s just how it is. It’s their money so they’re not obligated to spend it on me, and I understand that.

Too bad. So what are they expecting you to do next year?

You better add Kent State, U Toledo, and a few other Ohio schools to your list. You need at least full tuition merit. Then work fulltime in summer and take your student loan.

Can you commute to any Ohio schools? Would you be able to live at home?

Good for you SEBSTACK! You’re already on your way to being - no, make that - You ARE a responsible adult who will be very successful in life knowing that nobody owes you anything in life. Grab that merit money, Try for outside scholarships even small ones. Borrow what you need in year one and work during breaks then Get a campus job

You can do this! Best of luck
