I know that PEA is considered a very good school for those interested in science and math - but, my D didn't like the school. Can anyone suggest some other schools that have a strong science program? Astronomy would be a plus. Thanks

i think deerfield does, but i’m not sure. they have a really awesome science building that seems to have a lot to do with astronomy: [The Koch Center :: Deerfield Academy](http://www.deerfield.edu/campus/521/The_Koch_Center)

thanks for the pointer, 2010!

Hotchkiss has 4 telescopes!

Andover has an excellent science program. The Gelb Science Center was constructed in 2004 at the cost of $40m and is composed of three floors, each dedicated to a different scientific discipline; the ground floor is the bio floor, the second floor is dedicated to physics, and chemistry occupies the third floor. Of course, there are plenty of science courses that fall between these disciplines. These include fluid dynamics, quantum mechanics, ornithology, astronomy, and a bunch more. More course listings in science can be found at [Phillips Academy - Course Listings](http://www.andover.edu/Academics/CourseCatalog/Pages/default.aspx)

In terms of Gelb’s facilities, they’re pretty mind-blowing. For example, the first floor’s advanced lab has a DNA sequencer. Physics has an electron microscope. And the top floor has an observatory with a massive telescope that not only is used by astronomy classes but is also opened to the whole Phillips Academy community on Wednesday nights when the sky is clear enough. It’s AWESOME.

There was a good article in the New York Times that makes quite a few mentions of Andover’s science courses. It can be found at http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/07/education/edlife/07prepared.html?fta=y

In fact, the very first picture is of an advanced Andover math class…

Berkshire is in western Massachusetts, pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but the science program is excellent. I’ve also heard good things about math and science at Northfield Mount Hermon (they have an observatory) and Deerfield.
