I was just wondering what US schools people knew of that offer courses in Hungarian at any level.

I know that at Cornell University, if they don’t have a particular language that you want to study, by law in their constitution, they must provide it to you. So even if they don’t have Hungarian classes, for example, they would have to hire a private tutor to teach it to you.

I don’t know of any that do (that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.) But check St. Olaf. If you happen to be a math person, a Hungarian professor at St. Olaf coordinates Budapest Semesters Abroad, where you can do a semester abroad in a math program and take Hungarian Language as well. Perhaps St Olaf offers some language in preperation.

The best program is at Indiana University:
[Department of Central Eurasian Studies](http://www.indiana.edu/~ceus/)

Also, Ohio State:

Many Hungarians came to Ohio after the '56 revolution.

^ Also, U Toronto [Hungarian Studies Program - Munk Centre - Courses](http://www.utoronto.ca/hungarian/courses%202010-2011.html)

Columbia used to offer it, but idk if it still does.

Any level?

McDaniel College in Maryland offers basic Hungarian courses for students who study at the College’s school in Budapest. I believe you have to go to Budapest, however, to take the courses.

The following schools offer it at least through intermediate level:

Beloit College
UC Berkeley
UCLA
BYU
Indiana U. of PA
UMass Amherst
Trinity College (CT)
Rutgers NB
Arizona
LI U/ CW Post
Pitt
TOSU
Florida
UNC CH
Indiana
