does anyone know which good schools other than MIT and Carnegie Mellon specialize in math? I plan to major in math. However most schools have math majors and I'm unsure of what makes one school better over another. Can anyone help me?

Harvard, Princeton, Chicago, Berkely, Stanford. Duke does well in Putnum. Consider faculty, Do you want to study applied or pure math, consider size of program. Harvard, Princeton and Chicago are strong in pure math. New York Univ. known for applied. Consider the course catalog and courses that are available. Others might include Michigan, Cornell and Yale.

I plan to study pure math. I plan to apply to the ivies but I want some middle/match schools because of course there is always the possiblity that I won't get into an IVY no matter what my father thinks.

thanks for your help.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
SUNY Stonybrook.

Harvey Mudd

Search- there are lists on this site.

I'd say consider class size and general atmosphere heavily. Consider number of professors and courses offered, professorial interests, and . . . yeah. General education and strength because you might decide to switch to something else, something somewhat related like physics or econ or statistics or something way different.

Consider general academic requirements, from schools that have every course planned out for you such as St Johns College, to schools with almost no requirements, such as Brown and Vassar, those with greater requirements such as Chicago, Columbia, MIT and those with fewer, more flexible ones, such as Pomona.
