Schools that Waived the TOEFL for you

So pretty simple. I am just not happy with the idea paying 180$ on a stupid test and then another what 17$ for a report. If I apply to 15 schools that is a lot of money that can be saved. So I am asking you to list the schools that waived the TOEFL for you. I have a 650 CR score, will try to up it a little. Of course I will write to the admissions office to the schools that I want to apply and you did not listed, but I hope for some info before that.

Thank you.

is it $180? iBT cost me $165. And you dont need to spend $17 for a report. Most schools accept copies of the report, though you will have to get them attested by your counselor. And I think you can send a graded essay (if you are doing A-level) in lieu of the TOEFL, but you have to talk to the college.
But, if you get high scores in TOEFL, that would be a really big plus, specially when you have to compete with others with TOEFL scores.

Well in my country it is $180 and a lot of the schools say on their websites that they do not accept unofficial photocopies. Also most of the threads here say that TOEFL is on a passing basis, it is not that much of an aptitude test and I bet that here are people accepted to top schools without submitting the TOEFL and other who submitted it and did not get in. It is more than just scores and since the TOEFL is way too expensive for me (this is how much many students in my country spend for an entire month) I dont wont to take it and create this burden for my family.

Oh and we do not have counselors here :/

Just out of curiosity, where are you from? If you cant post it, you can PM me.

And, you do not need counselors. you can get it attested from your High School Principal (i got mine done by my principal). And you can talk to the admission people, they will understand. And the photocopies wont be unofficial, i think, because it’s attested.

If you dont want to take the test, you can always talk to the college. Ask them if they will need TOEFL or not, make sure that you ask them early when there’s still time to take the test if you are required to.

And yes, there are many cases where students with low scores got into top schools. But a good score will help you in any case.

oh I dont mind it is Bulgaria, I only wanted school names from experienced people, people who went through that.

Cut-off scores for different schools:

Columbia: Either 650 or 670.

Brown: 600

Johns Hopkins: 670

American: 550

While I was advised to send the TOEFL scores, if you look at the college websites many do waive the requirement above a certain SAT score.

As far as I remember:

Penn: 650 CR.

St Lawrence, Dickinson and Hamilton: 600 CR.

Amherst: 700 CR.

Williams and Harvard do not require the TOEFL.

However, I’ve heard that most schools will waive the TOEFL if you score above 700 on CR.

Almost every school will waive it if you have 700+, a lot of them if you’re above 600.
I had 690 and these schools waived or didnt require TOEFL - Grinnell, Williams, Swarthmore, Trinity C, Washington and Lee, U of Richmond, Bates,

List of Schools That Waive The TOEFL (with a CR score of)

Columbia(650)

Brown (600)

Johns Hopkins (670)

American University (550)

Penn (650)

St Lawrence (600)

Dickinson (600)

Hamilton (600)

Amherst (700)

Williams

Harvard

Swarthmore

Trinity C

Washington and Lee

U of Richmond

Bates

Grinnell

Grinnell, Swarthmore, Trinity, Washington and Lee, U of Richmond and Bates waived the TOEFL for Cermi who scored 690 on CR. It may be different for others’ particular scores, so IMO you should check each school’s policy before including them in the list.

I didn’t need to submit the TOEFL for any of my schools (Oberlin, Mt. Holyoke, St. Olaf, Smith, Hamilton, URichmond, Drexel).

If they don’t waive it for your because of your CR score, they’ll waive it for you if you have over 12 years of schooling in English.

Most of “my” schools would waive TOEFL for 600 CR, some of them didnt require it at all (Trinity), and some just answered to my email with no particular requirements.

btw add Kenyon C to the list.

P.S. Use google, toefl requirement (or “waive”) site:***.edu… it may help

I scored 680 in both CR and W
Schools that waived TOEFL for me:
