Schools that want all SAT scores--what about the ACT?

I'm applying to Syracuse and GWU, and they want all SAT scores, but they don't mention about all ACT scores. Am I going to be okay if I sent my highest ACT only, and then sent all my SAT scores?

0.o

They obviously want all your ACT scores too.

I’m kind of annoyed at this, if I understand it correctly. With the ACT you’ve always been able to send just the highest score, and now that the SAT is trying to do the same thing, people are making a big deal.

Syracuse superscores the SAT so it makes sense to send everything; you only need to send your highest ACT; they don’t require all scores

I would imagine GW is the same, but just a guess…

aigiginf: no, they don’t “obviously” want all your ACT scores too…and would say so if they did…

The OP said that “Syracuse and GWU…want all SAT scores.” If that statement is true, it’s obvious they want your all your ACT scores too. If his original statement is false, then no conclusion can be made until more research is done.

For Syracuse, you need not submit any ACTs if you submit SAT. Also, you need not submit all ACT scores but can submit highest. Despite telling the College Board earlier this year that it was going to require all scores, GWU did not actually adopt such a rule but has instead simply going to making the following statement: “There is no advantage to using the College Board’s Score Choice when applying to GW, as we will only consider your highest score from each section of the SAT.” You do not have to submit any ACTs if you submit SAT to GWU and can send just one ACT score. Syracuse left intact its ACT rule of sending only one because of its recognition that sending ACT scores means a charge for each score. Colleges that have adopted anti-score choice/all scores positions are not uniform in their rules, some are like Syracuse, some require all ACT scores if you submit any, and some require both all SAT and ACT scores.

It is clear that both schools will accept EITHER your SAT or ACT scores, you don’t need to send both:

As far as score choice for the SAT:

Syr does not accept score choice for the SAT. GWU does not state their score choice policy clearly either way, they only say that sending all scores is to your advantage as they will superscore.

As far as the ACT, neither school specifies. There IS a difference between submitting official scores for the SAT and ACT as all SAT scores from all sittings are sent for one fee, but each separate test date for the ACT is an additional fee. For instance, Yale states specifically that though they want all ACT scores self reported, only one official score needs to be sent:

It’s just that I have a 30 ACT and only a 1270/1600 SAT score (670 writing but not on the same test I got the 1270/1600 on, so 1940/2400 superscored), but I don’t know if I should send the SAT at all; I’m just worried about the alleged coastal bias with standardized tests working against me.

Coastal bias is a myth that seemingly won’t die (how about this for “coastal bias”: the Cal Poly’s are among the few colleges that actually still state a preference and that preference is the ACT). Your ACT is somewhat better than SAT so you can make the choice but sending all won’t hurt because they will choose that which they believe is the higher and use it for admission.
