My parents refuse to share anything about finances, but I probably won't be eligible for need based aid. I know my big brother is taking out large loans for school, and I don't want to be caught in the same position.

My stats:
3.3 UW GPA (school ranked about 150 in the country, if it matters)
1930 SAT

Some schools might. Tell us more about which part of the country you live, what kind of a school you want to attend, and how much aid you think you’ll need.

Take a look at the sticky threads at the top of this forum:
[Financial Aid & Scholarships - College Confidential](Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums)

Do you have a weighted GPA and do you plan to take the SAT again or try the ACT?

You should look into Babson College if you are interested in doing business at all. They offer some nice merit aid scholarships, especially their Weissman Scholarship. And you may be surprised by the amount of financial need aid they offer. I recommend that you at least apply and see what they offer you.

I live in New Jersey.
I would prefer a college to be unaffiliated and just in the northern half of the country. There’s obviously a lot of other factors as well, but I’m just looking for the best school financially right now.
I think I just need enough aid to bring the cost of the school (tuition+room+board) under 20K.

@Jacob- I tried Babson’s NPC. I’d only receive 17K in aid (keep in mind, it’s a 60K school).

Post the SAT score breakdown. Is you M+R more than 1350 ?

No, M+R is 1290.

CR: 620
M: 670
W: 640

In the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/16145676-post285.html list, you have a few full tuition options, like University of Alabama - Birmingham and Prairie View A&M. Getting a 1400 SAT CR+M or 32 ACT may open up more options. You may want to see if any of the schools use weighted GPA as well, which may option up more options.

If your parents don’t share any financial info., how do you know that your big brother is taking out loans?

I keep reposting this on cc, but I think it’s extremely useful: NY Times graph of colleges and universities that award merit aid.
