<p>Private schools don't care where you come from in terms of giving financial aid. So if you get in, you're on the same footing as the in-state students. </p>
<p>Most state schools do care. Look at the websites for the SUNY schools, Rutgers, etc. and see what merit scholarships are available for out of state students. Then check the cost of attendance and see if you could afford it with minimal aid.</p>
