Schools where I can get some aid?

^^^

you don’t have to be on the Lincoln Center Campus… you can be at the Rose Hill campus - which is the MAIN campus.

or…are you majoring in something that is only at the main campus?

What is the Lincoln Center reputation?

Do your parents want you to go to a Jesuit-specific or Catholic university? If so, there might be others that we can recommend.

BTW…you need to be aware that USC is in a bad area of town. A very bad area. Just a warning.

mom2collegekids, have you visited USC?

cubecul,

Your parents might not know how much they do have available, and they might not know how much the colleges/universities will expect them to pay. You should ask them to run the EFC calculators at [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org) and at [College Calculators - savings calculators - college costs, loans](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Calculate Your Cost – BigFuture | College Board) If they prefer to do the work by hand on paper, they can print out http://ifap.ed.gov/efcformulaguide/attachments/111609EFCFormulaGuide20102011.pdf</a></p>

If they are like many other Chinese immigrant parents, they are not very familiar with the US education system. You should encourage them to meet with your guidance counselor to talk about how things work here.

Washington University in St. Louis has an excellent business school, many east coasters (New Yorkers) attend, and they offer loads of merit scholarships.

I would not say that Wash U offers “loads of scholarships”.

WashU seems to target its limited number of big merit scholarships to students they want for a particular reason…URMs, students from unusual states, etc.

Besides, there average merit scholarship is only $9,000…not much considering the school costs over $55k per year.

Northeastern has good merit scholarships for high stats students.

As she did not answer my question, it seems that mom2collegekids has not visited USC, and so is passing on her “warning” based only on rumors rather than actual crime statistics. For accuracy’s sake I am sure then that mom2collegekids will want a complete listing of the “50 Most Dangerous Colleges,” so she can “warn” students about colleges more dangerous than USC. [50 Most Dangerous Colleges - The Daily Beast](The Daily Beast: The Latest in Politics, Media & Entertainment News)

A few schools of note that are, based on actual crime statistics rather than rumors, more dangerous than USC include:

1 Tufts
3 Harvard
13 Washington University in St. Louis
14 MIT
18 Brown
19 Columbia
20 Stanford
26 Yale
33 UC Berkeley
43 Princeton

I have visited USC many times and have felt very safe on the beautiful campus. My daughter has an apartment two blocks from campus and feels quite safe there.

My parents understand the education system. I’m not an only child. They’re just unsure of the family’s financial stability in the next years.

I’ve heard from many of my friends that visited USC that it doesn’t seem like much crime would exist around the area. I don’t know for sure, though.

^^^ Good to learn that your parents understand things! So many (even native US parents) don’t.
