Okay, I'm thinking of applying to a few colleges and since I get a fee waiver on every application I fill out, I will give a good number of schools a try.

Criteria:
Major: Good-Average Business School, I wouldn't mind going in as L.A. and do a transfer to the b-school after raising my GPA.
Location: Preferably somewhere rural and like the Midwest. Ex. I went to Purdue and loved it.
School: Accepting of diversity, HUGE fans of sports(Preferably B10 type), and great campus, I also LOVE intramural sports so I would love a school that has a huge recreational facility plus a lot of playing fields. A golf course on campus would be a plus also.
IMPORTANT PART: I need a school that would be inexpensive for OOS by either having a low tuition or having GREAT need-based packages. I will have a ZERO EFC and I prefer a school that is would be below $20,000.

Current Stats:
HS:
GPA: 3.2
SAT: 1140/1600, 1630/2400. 620M, 520CR, 490W
School: Top 25 Public School in Jersey, 60% goes to Tier 1 Colleges.
Class Rank: School doesn't rank but it would be below 75% with a 3.2(Quite competitive, to be a Top 25% you need a 4.2+)

College:
Purdue
GPA: 2.0
I had a lot of personal reasons along while being unmotivated and not being used to a social life since I never had one in HS.

J&W-Providence
GPA: 3.53
Got my act together but I despise the school way too much that I can't stay here for another year.

I really wonder how colleges will look at my GPA for my two colleges I went to... However, I'm applying to a CC back at home and Rutgers-New Brunswick and Newark. I'm not a big fan of Rutgers however, I prefer the Midwest/urban area so much more... Thanks guys.

I was thinking of UMinny and apply as a transfer for the Liberal Arts college then transfer to their b school. Anyone know how generous the financial aid would be if my EFC is a 0 and I’m OOS? Cause I know that tuition, room & board plus fees is around $25k.

OOS publics (except for UVa and UNC) won’t care that your EFC is 0. All you’ll get is fed aid. You’d be stuck coming up with the bulk of the costs.

OOS publics don’t have FA money to give to OOS kids.

What fed aid do you get now? Pell? Any other fed aid? That’s what you’d get.

What diversity are you looking for. I’m asking because whenever anyone says that, usually they’re looking for a particular group of people.

I already get the max for federal grants. I just prefer the Midwest/rural environment more than the urban one… Rutgers-NB is my state school and I’m not really fond of the urban environment its located at.

What kind of diversity are you looking for? Black, Hispanic, Asian, American Indian, Gay, Jewish, or Muslim students???

When someone says that they want diversity, usually it means that they want to make sure a particular group is present on campus. They don’t usually insist that EVERY group be well represented on campus. So, which kind of diversity would make you most comfortable?

I already get the max for federal grants.

You have 2 problems…

1) you’re a transfer student. Schools aren’t digging deep into their financial wallets for transfer students since it doesn’t help them with their rankings.

2) you won’t get aid from most OOS publics - just your fed aid. The exceptions are UVa or UNC-CH.

So…either pick one of your instate schools (Rutgers-NB is not the only one), or pick a cheap OOS public like UMinn (don’t know how much diversity you’d find there), a SUNY, a CUNY, or a southern public.

Isn’t your major something like hospitality management or something like that? (or am I mixing you up with someone else?)

The picture is not clear here, especially how long you were at each college would be important to know.

Financial aid is tough for transfers in general outside of the schools that meet 100% of need for all, which are unlikely with your grades and scores. Most of these schools don’t have business undergrad programs anyway.

Even when public colleges do offer some aid to OOS students, it’s the very top candidates that get it.

I’m thinking your in state publics are going to be where you need to apply.

NJ has the worst in state publics in terms of what I’m looking for. Rutgers-NB is the only biggest state college and is really the only school in Jersey that has a LEGIT D1-A sports program. To be honest, I don’t care much about diversity since most of my friends are Caucasian. Also, not trying to sound like a racist against my own people of other ethnicities but I’m not fond of Asians even though I’m Korean. It’s basically because of personal reasons but one of them is because I do not like fobs, fresh of the boat.

mom2collegekids, you haven’t forgotten me but yes I am the one in hospitality management. I’m looking at doing business instead and do an MBA program in the hospitality sector while working. I’m working on getting an intern. at a hotel this summer so I have networks still and show my experience in the industry.

So to sum it all up, the chance of me going to a school that I want to go to: big, huge sports program, good bus. school is unlikely cause of my grades, being a transfer, and my need for need-based aid?

Are there any other OOS publics except for UNC-CH that has a cheap tuition then like UMinny?

*Are there any other OOS publics except for UNC-CH that has a cheap tuition then like UMinny? *

Hmmmm

UNC-Ashville is rather cheap and may help with F/A, but I have no idea if they have a B-
school or what. OOS tuition is about $16k - but I’ve heard that it gives FA to OOS students. I’d contact them and ask if that’s true.

Ok…here’s a cheap OOS public with a B-school. Don’t know how you’d feel about this school, but on CC some have spoken well of the school in general.

Hmm thanks for those recommendations mom2collegekids. I may consider UArkansas since they do have what I want in terms of big school and big athletics program… Not too fond of UNC-Asheville and Truman State though. I do know that there are a few SUNYs like Bing. that have a good B-school…

Hi Jimgotkp, keep in mind some colleges will disregard SATs altogether if you have atleast ___ credits for transfer. That alone opens some doors to colleges that are only above you through SATs, so carefully check their individual sites as they will mention whether you need always send them.

^ Thats true. But my college GPA, specifically the one I had from Purdue kills me. How are they going to calculate my GPA anyone? 2.0 at Purdue and a 3.53 at JWU?

*I will have a ZERO EFC and I prefer a school that is would be below $20,000.

I’m guessing that you mean for COA? Right? Or, were you talking about tuition only? There are other schools if you’re talking about tuition only.

In terms of B10 sports, I was talking about a Big Ten environment. I want to be in a school that is part of a conference where people have a lot of school spirit, tailgate, etc. Schools like the Big 12,etc.

And yes I do mean the <$20,000 by COA not tuition. Thanks!
