Schools with good merit scholarships

Looking for schools in the northeast! Big schools preferred.
Stats-
3.45 UW
2000 SAT( Cr; 620, W; 650, M; 730)
From what I understand private schools give more money than public? But it can be public or private most my schools are public I would like the cost to be in the 30-35k range .
Schools I'm applying to in hopes of money:
University of Rhode Island
UMass Amherst
Syracuse
Towson
Ohio state

So any help would be appreciated ! Iive in NY I would prefer not to go to a suny school but if I have to I will! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated (northeast/Midwest) - so no Alabama please

Have you looked at the pinned threads in the FInancial Aid forum?

What is your weighted GPA? your unweighted may be too low for merit.

the NE is not good hunting grounds for merit if you need a decent amount.

how much merit do you need? In other words, how much will your family pay

Gpa 3.45 UW

Sat - 680- math 620-reading 590- writing.
Second sitting - 710- math 600- reading 610- writing

ACT- 29

Retaking both

Merit is usually based on single sittings…not super scores. your M+CR is a 1310, which is about the same as your ACT 29.

@mom2collegekids‌ my single sitting is 1350 . The SAT I put in this threats is single sitting  just got the results yesterday

@mom2collegekids‌ and my parents will pay for some of my total cost so we are aiming at <35,000 I will have to take out loans :/

@ErinsDad‌ I have but I don’t know what to look for

@PrayforUF‌

YOU can only borrow $5,500 for freshman year. Did you realize that?

I can’t say I understand the appeal of the schools you listed over a SUNY (which $30-35K a year definitely could pay for).

In any case Providence has some merit scholarships: http://www.providence.edu/financial-aid/applying-aid/Pages/institutional-merit-based.aspx</a>

And Dayton: <a href=“Transcript Request : University of Dayton, Ohio”>Transcript Request : University of Dayton, Ohio;

And DePaul (and Creighton). Actually, a lot of the Catholic schools would have scholarships which you may be able to get.

Oh, and Hofstra: <a href=“Admission: First-Year Scholarships | Hofstra University”>http://www.hofstra.edu/Admission/adm_firstyear_scholarship.html</a>

What does that mean?

How much will your parents pay?

You can only borrow $5,500 for frosh year, so are you saying that your parents have COMMITTED to paying about $30k per year? If not, how much will they pay??

There is a stickied thread about this topic

@mom2collegekids‌ they said aim for 30k-35k but they aren’t being totally clear. They are all for waiting to see what Happens. And the suny schools are kind of small which i don’t like  I’ll go if I have no other better options. I want to make the smartest decision but be happy as well

PrayforUF are you praying for University of Florida? Seriously though you must know of the $12,000 buckeye scholarship for OOS students if you are applying to Ohio State. But MUST have all your materials (SAT scores, school transcript, application and recommendation) received by OSU by November 1. Thats a firm deadline. Checkout that school’s website.

Uh, Buffalo has 20K undergrads and Stony Brook has 16K undergrads.

That’s comparable to Towson (18K undergrads), Syracuse (15K undergrads), UMass-Amherst (21K undergrads) and bigger than URI (13K undergrads).

@rgr717‌ that’s the scholarship I’m hoping for! And I just applied last night :)

@PurpleTitan‌ the two sunys I’m applying to are bing and albany. Stony is too close to home and I’m applying to buffalo if I don’t get into bing

Bing has 13k full time undergrads, the same size as URI. Albany has 12K, hardly a difference.

UAB
