I'm looking for schools that have excellent programs in both Theatre and Psych. Any suggestions? Here's a few more guidelines:

In or near a city (not in the middle of nowhere, basically)

Preferably NOT in New England

Medium size (around 3,000 - 15,000?)

No all-women's colleges

Most of the replies you will get will be of people boasting their school’s graduate rankings in particular things. But you can consider Georgetown University. They have several very active theatre societies, a brand new performing arts building, and a theatre and performing arts major. They also have many interesting and engaging psychology faculty. I don’t know anything about the rankings, but I don’t think Georgetown ranks in any of the graduate school rankings for these areas. Georgetown is more of a Liberal Arts college with a focus on undergraduate studies, as well as several very good professional schools. Most of its graduate body is in the SFS and IR/government/linguistics related areas.

The University of Rochester has both well-regarded. The International Theatre program is located as a concentration within the English Dept. One of the classes that my d took and counts towards her major is Theatre in England, a 3 week trip in between Fall and Spring semester in London, in which you see approximately 2 plays a day-21 days-it was a great experience. Also theatre dept last year had a fall weekend trip to Stratford Festival in Canada.

S is a theater major, psych minor at Rollins College, which appears to have good programs in both. It’s a beautiful college on a lake right outside of Orlando.

@raelah - Your desire for the psychology department leaves out schools like Julliard, and the requirement of big city proximity leaves out schools like Ithaca College. Your not wanting New England leaves out Yale and Boston U. Your size req rules out UCLA, USC, Rutgers, Syracuse, and NYU (Tisch).

Have you considered Carnegie-Mellon University?

Yes, Georgetown is doing good things with theater, with it’s many performing arts groups, new theater major, and new performing arts center. Undergrad psychology is pretty good, a lot of interesting classes on cognitive psychology, and if you’re interested in biopsychology there are a couple neuroscience classes, as well as classes in the neurobiology major and cognitive science minor. They’re also adding a B.S. option for psychology, in addition to the established B.A. major.

However, I’d recommend NYU over Georgetown if interested in theatre and psychology, and it technically isn’t in new england ;)
