Schools with merit scholarships

What schools give out a lot of merit scholarships?
I know University of Alabama gives out a lot of $$$, what about Clemson? Or anything else in the southeast. Thanks

List your stats and cc will point you in the right direction.

1390 SAT, 30 ACT- planning to retake in December. 4.36 GPA weighted, and I believe around 3.96 unweighted @nw2this :slight_smile:

Could not seem to find Clemson’s @sybbie719

Texas A & M - Kingsville
UA Huntsville
LSU Shreveport
Southern Mississippi
Delta State

Clemson’s awards for those stats would not be much. And Clemson has a HIGH OOS rate, so the merit reduction would probably get you to same cost as many OOS schools without any merit given.

What do you want your net cost to be?

HOW much will your parents pay each year?

it will mostly be loans. i have an older sister in college as well and she is out of state, my parents don’t pay for much of hers. they help, but the majority is loans. they don’t make much money, but i believe they do make more than what would be considered for need-based scholarships.

Your parents, who don’t make much money, are co-signing large loans for your sister?? That is not wise
.
What is your major and career goal? How much do you think you’ll be earning upon graduation

Do you realize how being burdened with a huge loans will really damper your adult life?

i can not speak on their behalf, but i do know my sister’s major is only offered out of state, and after her sophomore year she’ll only be paying in-state tuition for that reason. they spent countless nights weighing the options together and their decision appears best for her future.

i’d like to go to medical school, but i want my undergrad to be more focused on marine biology while still completing the pre-med program. just in case medical school does not work out, i’d like to have something to fall back on that i enjoy.

i do not want large loans, as to why i made a post about scholarships. @mom2collegekids

Look into Eckerd, they’re EXCELLENT for marine biology and have good scholarships. You could also apply to UNC Wilmington for Honors College.
Southern Mississippi is a good pick for merit.
What’s in state for you?
What’s your EFC?
Can you run the NPC on your state flagship as well as the above 3 colleges and let us know what the “net price” is?

Hi, so sorry but I’m not sure what EFC or NPC mean! I live in Georgia! @MYOS1634

EFC = Estimated Family Contribution
NPC = Net Price Calculator
Example, if you google “Clemson Net Price Calculator,” you will be able to determine an approximation of your EFC

Ok, Georgia resident. Do you qualify for Zell Miller? If so, take advantage of that!!!

If your ultimate goal is med school, and you REALLY want that, then have a smart plan that will get you there. You live in a state with a med school that prefers their own residents.

What was your sister’s FAFSA EFC result? Ask her.

@pardullet Oh ok. Thank you!

Ole Miss would give you $4500 plus $7500 towards non-resident tuition. Getting up to 1450 would give you $7500 and an out of state waiver.

@mom2collegekids Thank you, I believe I qualify. Not sure how to apply though, Guess I should figure that out :smiley:
