I know of Evergreen, Cornell (iowa) and Colorado College.

Are there any similar schools near the east coast?

You mean the “Block plan”.

I did not know Evergreen employed the block plan. I did know that Cornell College and Colorado College did though. As far as I know, those are the only two major colleges that do. Altogether, only 10 or so US colleges/universities employ the block plan, and other that the two mentioned above, none of them are considered very good.

Thank you - my S goes to Evergreen and really likes the one-course curriculum. I think my other S, who struggled with the traditional 4- to 5-course curriculum because of executive function issues, could benefit from that as well, but he needs to stay closer to home. It doesn’t matter whether they are considered “very good.”

as a follow-up, I don’t think Evergreen is technically on a block plan. Unlike Colorado College, Evergreen has quarters and students can take one 16-hour interdisciplinary course per quarter (about 3 months). Many of the courses span 2 or 3 quarters (my S is taking a year-long course this year, which includes a study abroad component - contrary to what some might think, it involves a ton of reading and writing and is not easy.)
