Here is a link to the scca list that is posted on the SSAT website SSAT Student Guide Online. This is a list of schools with openings for the 2008-2009 school year.

I see some very good schools on the list:

Asheville
Conserve
George School
Miss Porter's
Miss Hall's
Northfield Mount Hermon
Putney School

There are probably others -- those are just the ones that I recognize.

I did notice that there are fewer schools on the list than last year -- and some of the schools my son applied to were on the school last year and are not this year. Interesting.

I've been waiting for them to update this. I see some schools that I called and that i'm interested on there, which is comforting.

Last year I watched the list a little, and I noticed that some were added after the initial link was made available. However, this is the 3rd year that I've looked at the list, and it seems to get smaller every year.

Some other schools of which I am aware that I saw on the list: Westover, Williston Northampton, Gunnery, Cushing and Portsmouth Abbey. I'm sure there are more -- these plus the list above are the ones I remember.

Stef, I went to the site and clicked on Miss Porter's - because I was surprised since I heard that they had no openings. It comes back and shows no openings for summer 2008 or school year 2008 - 2009.

It shows no openings for summer 2008 or winter/spring 2009, but it does show openings for fall 2008.

For whatever reason it shows that Miss Porters has openings for the Fall of 2008. It says that it has no openings for Summer and Winter of 2008.

shelley14 -- If you think this is an error, then you might want to let the MPS Admissions office know about it.

If you go to the list and click on Miss Porter's -- it takes you to a link that says they have openings for 9th grade girls boarding.

Interesting - I jumped to the end and saw no openings but you folks are right it is showing freshman boarding openings. I'll look into it!

It's interesting to see some of these schools that had students on waitlists... Do you think some schools list as having openings so they can continue to receive applications to fill specific needs. Does that make sense??

Also, be sure to click on the link for each school that interests you. For example, Canterbury is on the list at the left, but has no openings. Not sure why it is listed then.

I had used the Internet archive site:

Internet Archive

to look at what schools were available in past years. For some reason, it is not letting me access old pages at SSAT.org right now. But, I do remember that Kent was on last year's list, and is not there now.

They might have been on fa waitlists. Some schools probably still have openings, but no more fa to give.

This is not a very accurate list. I know, for instance, that my school - St. Andrew's-Sewanee (St. Andrew's-Sewanee School) - still has openings in some grades but is not included on the list.

The list is not 100% accurate but it's quite useful for late applicants.
Some schools will come up spot later during the summer.
Some will 'keep' spots for relocate or other situation.
Few schools not on the list, but if you have connection, still have chance to get in.

FWIW-The reason Miss Porter's would show NO opening for winter/spring 2009 is probably that they don't admit mid-year.

Good to have you back sbergman! We missed you during the busy spring season.
As far as them being listed and having no openings, the lille blurb about the list says something about some schools wanting to post that they have no openings. But it would be helpful if that was a seperate list. Although I didn't check to see if you could sort it that way.

not all the school has opening posting there. most school like nmh did not have fa last year while I called them.

I think the main reason NMH has openings is because their yield was lower than expected and it was because of FA.

I dont get this list..does it mean that say i can apply to a school this summer and attend in the fall?

Im confused...

Yes, sullivan09, all is not lost. There are many schools that continue to accept students throughout the summer for fall admission. And some others will accept applications in the fall for January admission. Another way to identify these schools is to go to Boarding School Review and look for schools with deadlines listed as "rolling".
