What is the difference between with PhD and without. My goal is to become a mechanical engineer and I will go up to a masters at most, but I am not planning on a PhD.
What are the pros and cons? On USNWR, there are different categories for school with and without. At the top of with is MIT and at the top of without is Rose-Hulman. What comparison factor could there really be? If Rose-Hulman, Cal Poly SLO, Harvey Mudd, or any of the US Academy’s were on a combined list, where would they fall.
Though USNWR separates the programs for evaluation purposes, rankings by the same peer assessment scale appear in both categories. RHIT (PA: 4.4), then, might match with UIUC (PA: 4.4), and therefore in a tie for fifth overall, if the categories were combined. Some caveats would apply with this method, but you may find it satisfactory for a rough cross-category comparisons.
@Jpgranier : I happen to own the 2016 US News “Best Colleges,” book, which contains undergraduate-specific information difficult to find elsewhere, and which you can easily find in the library, your school guidance office, or a local bookstore (wait a few days for the new edition). (Not your question here, but graduate department rankings tend to be a poor substitute as a source for evaluations of undergraduate programs.)
