Schools With Strongest Communication Majors? [Concentrated Around East Coast/Midwest]

Hello! I am currently a rising senior in HS, and I have been trying to compose a list of schools with the best communication majors or schools of communication. So far, my list includes (in no particular order):

  1. Northwestern
  2. UofWisconsin (Madison)
  3. UofMichigan
  4. Tufts
  5. Vanderbilt
  6. NYU
  7. Boston College

I have an unweighted 3.56 GPA (It has suffered considerably as I was just recently diagnosed with ADHD and I have never been able to concentrate very well), and 730M, 750W, 720CR, and APs: 4 on APUSH, 5 on English Language, 3 on Phys1. I am planning to take the ACT and am aiming for a 35/36.

I have consistently taken the highest level of classes and am taking 4 APs next year. Most of these schools are reaches, so if you know any other schools with Communications majors please let me know!

I would prefer to stay around the East Coast, and the farthest I would be willing to go is the Midwest, around Northwestern. I am still very inexperienced in my college searching so if you had any other tips just for searching for colleges in general I would be very grateful!

My ultimate goal is to graduate and then move to Korea (I am Korean) to work in broadcasting/television/radio, at one of Korea’s big broadcasting stations.

Are you interested in TV & radio broadcasting in general, or more specifically in broadcast journalism?

See if these programs interest you:

I would take a strong look at Syracuse-see above. Top notch program.

If you want to go more into the tech side of broadcasting, I would look at Central Michigan, they have a great program. If you want to go into Broadcast Journalism, then Northwestern

@zapfino I was thinking more TV and radio broadcasting in general, I suppose that would be more like what @Cam1211 said, like the tech side of broadcasting. Thank you @artie1 ! I will look into that!

Thank you all so much!

Actually, do you guys know any schools with the best Communications majors in general? Rather than specifically TV/Radio/Broadcasting? @zapfino @Cam1211 @artie1

Michigan state has a great communication program

UW-Madison’s J school is excellent. When I was there, there were five concentrations:

  1. Mass Communications (this was the "basic" Journalism major)
  2. Newswriting & Reporting
  3. Advertising
  4. Public Relations
  5. Broadcast Journalism
