Schools you applied to

*Hi, I am a junior and I was wondering whether if those who applied to haverford this year would post what other colleges they applied to (and were accepted/ wL / denied).
Also, why you are going attend/not going to attend the college you chose. Thanks and post those schools, I need to know if i really have a shot here! *

College admissions is a very... confusing and difficult process.

Generally, I can say that everyone I met at open houses for Liberal Arts Colleges was a cross-admit candidate.

Cross-admits can choose from Vassar, Bryn Mawr, Ford, Swat, Midd, and more rarely Williams and Amherst, as well as some other colleges.

If you're "good enough" to get into one of these super-selective LACs, you should stand a good chance at being accepted at the others.

I also observed that the vast majority of people who are considering matriculating to LACs are Ivy League-rejects :)

I'm no Ivy League reject!! didn't even apply to them, i knew i wanted a small liberal arts college, just like Haverford!

Bowdoin-WL
Colby-Accept
Bates-Accept
UVM-Accept
Haverford-Accept
Kenyon-Accept
Macalester-Accept
Carleton-Accept, legacy though
Grinnell-Accept

I'm going to Haverford next year because it is perfect for me. When my older sister started doing the college search stuff, i read about haverford in fiske and told my mom thats where i wanted to go.

I LOVE the honor code and the ownership of the community that it provides to students. I think confrontation is one of the coolest things everrrr (even if it doesn't always happen the way it should, as students told me on my overnight)

On a more intangible front, i really like the social/party scene. it was really chill. really chill. everyone was comfortable with eachother.

there's only one ugly building on campus, stokes, and i guess you can count the apartments, but not really because they're separate.

As i walked around the campus, i couldn't stop grinning and i felt like was home.

I wasn't expecting to get into haverford, and as i said on your other thread, you have a shot!!

hey i just started this whole online college search, im about to graduate high school right now and i have questions and i need help to answer them. Im interested in pre-med but i have to go to community college to bring up my GPA, what are some classes that are mandatory?

Just for reference (I'm a freshman at Haverford):

I was also looking for LACs

Haverford College - accept
Carleton College - accept
Grinnell College - accept
Lawrence University - accept
Claremont McKenna College - accept
Hamilton College - accept
Wesleyan University - accept
Miami University - accept
UC Irvine - accept
UCLA - reject (yes, I saved it for last on purpose ;))

About pre-med requirements:

"The minimum requirements of most medical schools are not many. They are usually those set by law of licensure to practice medicine: a year of biology, a year of physics and two years of chemistry. Many medical schools require a full year of English and some require mathematics, biochemistry or psychology."
Department of Biology at Haverford College

Pre-med students here normally take general Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Introductory Physics, and a lot of bio classes and/or psych classes (i.e. Molecular Neurobiology and Personality Psychology).

Haverford--accept
Bryn Mawr--accept
Oberlin--accept
Bates--accept
Bowdoin--accept
Colby--accept
Swarthmore--reject
Wellesley--WL
Amherst--WL
Smith--matriculated!!

kwu: it may be true that a significant percentage of Williams and (perhaps somewhat less so) Amherst matriculants are "ivy league rejects" (by which I mean top ivies, e.g. HYPD), but this is far less true at Swat as it really occupies a different niche among the top LACs: is isn't simply a "mini"-HYP for the prestige-conscious/less fortunate.

Oh, I understand this. As evidenced by some of the people who have posted in this thread, there are those who apply solely to LACs, and there are those who ultimately choose LACs over the Ivy League.

In addendum: there are four people from my HS who will be attending Williams next year. One is exceptional at theater and mathematics, the other has devoted much of his time to community service. The two others are ED athletic recruits. They are all genuinely happy at their enrollment at Williams, and it was their top choice over any Ivy League school.

I rest my case.

My D applied to and was accepted at:
Haverford
Bowdoin
Tufts
Brandeis
Oberlin
Kenyon
Macalester
Connecticut College
She was rejected from Yale (but honestly, she only applied to see if she would get in-- she really didn't like it when she visited)
She picked Haverford because she was looking for a school with strong teaching and community, with a culture that emphasized community service. She loved Bowdoin... absolutely loved it, but ultimately it was the culture of Haverford that made the decision.

Applied ages ago, but I would make the case that me (and lots of other people I know at Haverford) are good examples that you don't necessarily need to go to an Ivy League School to get an amazing education.

Haverford (Accept)
Emory (Accept)
Cornell (Accept)
U Penn (Accept)
Harvard (WL)
Johns Hopkins (Reject)
Tufts (Accept)
Dartmouth (Accept)
U. Pittsburgh (Accept)

^Seems odd to be accepted at Dartmouth, W/L at Harvard and rejected at JHU.

Here's my record. a texas resident
