It just seemed that nobody on campus was really happy or friendly, the tour was very disorganized, clearly not planned out ahead of time. It might've just been the day i was there...or just me...I'm sure some people like it; one of my best friends is going there. Go visit and see what you think. Let us know!

Columbia--it seems like a preserve in a dead-zone.

Penn--for obvious reasons

Wellesley--seemed cold and not-fun.

Amherst--see Wellesley

How about schools you thought you wouldn't like, and hated even more when visiting?

Chicago. Horrible, yuck!

Johns Hopkins

MIT

The reason we are seeing the same schools on this list (Uchicago...Yale...Columbia etc) is because these schools have very urban feels to them.

The people who want to go to D-mouth have to like the rural thing better.

KB,

looking back through the thread the only exception would be Amherst--a lot of posts dogging Amherst. Otherwise, Columbia, Penn, Brown, JHU and Berkeley seem to take the honors of most disappointing.

All of which are urbanesque schools...esp JHU and Columbia

True, but not Amherst. It's not urban, and barely suburban. WIlliams, Amherst and, I believe Middlebury are the schools most often compared to dartmouth due to a similar feel. Of these, it seems Amherst was the most disappointing.

Yeah...what's up with that. I thought people would be all over Amhurst and William. I guess thats just a thing.

Well i never considered Brown because i live right by it (my highschool literally is next door) and really know how far left the school really is (i dont have an issue with political diversity, but Brown has none, they really are all far left....I also really didnt like cornell...it had a very picturesque part, however i felt like the campus was almost like a factory...i dunno it just didnt feel like a place i would enjoy living at, plus it pretty large.

Aside from that all the other schools i was interested in i loved!

I actually love Brown and other urban campuses too. I hate the "factory" feeling also, which I got from MIT, Chicago, and JHU. I think I would feel the same about Cornell, but I have never visited.

I hated Chicago because the students were horrible and the campus had no social life.
