ecliptica is a tulane student that brown was nice enough to host in the katrina aftermath for one semester--he or she frequently pipes in w/ negative things to say about brown because in his or her opinion, brown lacks tulane's party scene.
understandably, few schools can compete w/ tulane's party scene

That's pretty much it. The classes and everything were great (I've posted a lot of GOOD things about Brown, too; I guess y'all just overlook that ;) ) but the social scene. . .ugh. I honestly didn't look into Brown before I decided to go there for the fall, but it was entirely too liberal and "care-free" for me.

Plus. . .it was cold :)

Any school that is in the Northeast

Any school in Florida

-Any LAC
-Any school with "institue of technology" or "tech" in the name
-Any college in a deserted state like WY, ND, SD, MT, etc, and a few down south like AR, MS, etc.
-Any public school in Connecticut besides for UConn
-Any international school
-Any school where a social life and athletics program is basically non-existant.

AK??? Last time I looked at a map, Alaska was not in the south! <g></g>

Arkansas' abbreviation is AR. Alaska's is AK.

(BTW, you might be surprised to know that we have a very good LAC here in AR - Hendrix College.)

Haha, sorry about that...I fixed it. Arkansas is a place I probably want to visit sometime in the near future, I just can't really imagine myself going to school there.

The more I think about it, this is exactly my list.

EDIT: I have friends at Arkansas State and they have a great time there. And if Ole Miss wasn't such a crappy school, I would so transfer there. Amazing athletics, ridiculously hot girls, best looking campus I've ever seen, great college experience, total package minus it being "the public university of Mississippi" :)

ugghhh MIT, Caltech, anything very math-science-y. Also city universities with campus ON the streets. And really, really, really, really big schools like UMich and Cornell.

anything with a strong religious affiliation!

SDSU = high school #2 for me. I need room to grow and mature independently, and it most certainly is not the place for me to experience that.

U of M isn't that big. It isn't even the biggest school in the state.

What's wrong w/ LACs?

My exclusion list is as follows (aka I avoid a school if the following applies)

-The school is a known party school
-There is no Presbyterian church nearby
-There is no major mall nearby
-The school does not allow Macs
-The professors are extremely liberal
-The average class size is 20 or more
-Good Friday means classes

I am thankful to go to a college associated with the Catholic church (even though I'm Presby--my church is like half a mile from campus and the protestant ministries are done through it). When I found out my state school buddies had class on Good Friday, I almost lost it.

Penn State? Why? It's pretty much on par with UMD for me, a slight edge because of the distance from home.

Let's just say when ~35% or so of the kids from your HS go there every year, and the school is nicknamed '13th grade', it isnt very appealing ;)

University of Chicago.

Oh, I get that jPoD...:D

:-D (10 chars)

You know, I have to agree with you on that one jPoD. That was one of the big reasons I turned down Virginia Tech and UVa acceptances, even though I could have taken advantage of in-state tuition.

Also, any religious schools. Especially ones where people are angered at Good Friday classes.
