2180 SAT / 33 ACT / rank 3 out of ~450
I had no crazy national honors or awards or anything, but I'm really involved within my school and community I suppose... My essays weren't mind-blowing, either. I'm pretty much a normal, bright kid. I hope that gives people confidence that they can and will get accepted too (:

sandmitch, did you receive a letter in the mail stating your acceptance? If so, when did the letter come?

I was really really excited to see the big white envelope in the mail; I just got back from visiting PSU this past weekend so it was perfect timing!

Congrats to all accepted!

Also accepted OOS. Spent a LOT of time on the essays and ECs are fairly robust.

S accepted into Engineering. 2200/2400 SAT. 100 GPA unweighted. Eagle Scout. Only a few EC's but extremely strong very time consuming EC's, all in leadership roles, most were out of school EC's. Swim team capt. 15 Penn State Dual Enrolled credits. 15 AP credits. Top 5% of extremely competitive private academic H.S. near Pitts. Excellent teacher rec's.

He's turning down near full rides at Pitt, Duquesne, Drexel and Villanova. Had good interview and felt he would have been accepted at U of Penn (did not like U of Penn or Drexel AT ALL. Could be a Pitts. thing!).

Congrats to all accepted. To those who were not accepted, PLEASE come to PSU and try to get in for your Soph. or Jr. years. PSU is an excellent school and you can make a big contribution.

From a quick talk with an SHC rep yesterday after our envelope came it looks like it all came down to a VERY large applicant pool. Some EXCELLENT applicants from S's h.s. did not get in - grades/SAT's were about the same but they were not as strong in EC's, especially community minded EC's.

Son has been working to position himself since fresh. year to get into SHC and discovered he really likes doing community service work. If any underclassman high schooler's are reading this remember it's never to early to plan for your dream school.

Good luckto all. And remember, Steelers ROCK!!!

rocksteelers, did they say how large the applicant pool was and how many were accepted?

They said the pool approached 4000 applicants and would take a max of 300.

300 out of 4000 ?!? Yikes. I knew the applicant pool was large, but nothing like that...
