What's the profile of kids getting in here? What would you need to even think about applying? I'm trying to decide whether or not I should apply for the hell of it...any help would be great.

A solid GPA is definitely helpful....you will need to write three essays for the application and from what I've heard, they are taken very seriously. Also, good teacher recommendations can work wonders. SAT scores are not taken into account all that much--I got a 1330 (without writing) 2000 (with writing) and got in. I think they look for well-rounded people with good grades, ambition, curiosity, extracurriculars, etc. It's definitely worth applying!

Doesn't hurt to apply. I though my SATs weren't hot (1870) and wasn't counting on getting in. Then I get in the SHC. They don't consider SAT's anymore. In HS my GPA was 4.28W and the class valedictorian with several leaderships and awards. Well-roundedness and curious students are what the SHC is all about.

I've got a 4.0 in basically all honors and AP throughout high school. My SATs aren't great (1880) like around yours cwryan but I have a solid amount of extracurriculars and writing is something I'm very good at so I think the essays would help. I think I'm going to apply.
