Schreyer's decision

What is it based on?

I "heard" they don't look at SAT scores, which I hoped would get me in. So what's the deal? GPA + essays?

Also, can I apply to both the 6yr med AND schreyer's? I can't find the option to apply for the 6 yr med on myPSU.

Also something separate. What are the scholarships for PSU? I have heard about "braddock" but I don't know what it is lol. I heard PSU is fairly stingy with scholarships since the in-state tuition is fairly cheap.

Schreyer admissions on based on GPA’s, essays AND EC’s, especially those demonstrating leadership and community involvement. By the way, you still need to present SAT/ACT scores for admission to PSU in the first place, since you need to be admitted to the school before they look at your Schreyer application.

I see no reason why you can’t apply to both the early-admission med school and SHC, but you cannot get both. If you are admitted to the med-school program, you are NOT eligible for SHC.

I believe the Braddock scholarship is intended for diversity purposes, but I’m not certain of that.

Thanks QuietType, that’s helpful

Braddock is for the Eberly College of Science, and the amount varies. The website says it’s for these majors: “Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physics, or Pre-Medicine at Penn State”

They only offer ~10 full-rides a year. Scholarship winners need an “exceptional” high school transcript, usually a 1480/1600 SAT or higher, great letters of recommendation, great essays for the SHC, and continuing involvement in scientific research.

Ooh! When do we hear for this? Coincidentally I have a fitting “profile” based on what you mentioned.
