Schreyers Honors College @ PSU vs. Hutton Honors College @ IUB--Business Major

I plan to major in business at Penn State University or at Indiana University Bloomington with the intent of entering investment banking. I have already been accepted into Hutton Honors College at Indiana, and will hear back from Schreyers Honors College at Penn State late this month. Assuming I am accepted to Schreyers, I would like to have any opinions as to what decision I should make.

Factors to consider:

Indiana University's Kelley School of Business is considerably better ranked than Penn State's Smeal Schoool of Business.

Schreyers at Penn State is, according to some sources, one of THE best honors programs in the country.

Indiana has a huge investment banking program, consisting of clubs, seminars, courses, and many other programs, the most I have seen.

Penn State just build a brand new business building (now the largest and most modern (building on campus).

Penn State recruiting is better for the NE USA (where I wish to be).

Indiana recruiting is better ranked all around for the finance industry, but not necessarily the NE.

Factors not to consider:

Dorm/ Living options (both offer special living communities for business)

Campus (not location, just overall beauty)

Finances (comparable, I am a Pennsylvania resident, but costs with IU's scholarship offerings are very close to PSU)

Other factors:

If there are any other blatant or subtle factors I should consider (I am sure there are many!), please feel free to give that input as well.

Thanks to anyone with any opinions. Also, if you are in the business schools at either one of these universities or someone have experience from both (possibly undergrad at one and MBA at another, or even a transfer), I would LOVE to hear from you as well.

come on folks show me some love here!

That is a tough decision, assuming you get into Schreyers (which is very competitive). I am an IU Kelley grad, and I love the campus and the school. However, Penn State is a wonderful university with a much better football team (I know- not your major consideration). Schreyers would be tough to turn down since it is one of the leading honors colleges in the country, along with Plan II at UTexas. You might want a change of environment, which going to the midwest would provide.
The bottom line is that you can't go wrong with either choice. I think Bloomington is a perfect college town, and it sounds like the price is right.

thanks for the input momofwildchild...any one else out there willing to give an opinion?

You might try posting this on the Parents Forum for more replies. There are usually strong opinions there. :)

I thought the movie set at IU -- Cutters was quite entertaining... so my vote goes to IU for that ridiculously irrelevant reason :)

lol dunninLA...come on folks give me something here!

**disclaimer: biased opinion

Indiana University has a very rigorous investment banking workshop
that places people with regularity at Walstreet. It's one of the most
intensive IB programs in the nation for a non-ivy affiliated university.

I recall around last year, someone was posting numbers for total
investment bankers at Goldman Sachs, NY location. The responses on
the thread had some mild shock because Indiana graduates represented
more than many other well known colleges such as Cornell and Carnegie
Mellon.

If investment banking really is your thing, then I fully suggest IU. You seem
like a smart enough kid to get into the investment banking workshop, and
it's such a small group that you really get the individual attention needed.
I know 2 people in the IB workshop now. One has an IB job lined up now
and the other has a job lined up in bonds (which I'm pretty sure is also
intense/prestigious/high paying from my recollection).

As for the honors college at Penn State...yes, sounds awesome. But really,
what advantages of the honors college could possibly usurp the job offers
you'd get at being an IU graduate at the IB-workshop? That's what I thought.

Feel free to contact me more about this. I'd love to help you every step
of the way. apexeffect@gmail.com

Just my .02**

Umm...other factors to consider. If you get on my good
side I have a lot of influential connections at IU already.
And I know how to dominate the IU experience. If you're
motivated enough that is.

thank you radronOmega...just finished typing an email to you in fact

I hate PSU, but that's a tough decision. Yay SEPA!

you hate psu??? whats to hate?!

Everything. I attend the 'rival' school in Philadelphia :P

ahhh...well then you are completely entitled! i love penn
