I was just wondering about how many people apply to Schreyers and how competetive the pool is? If you're applying or already have I guess, please list your basic stats so we can get an idea of what the applicants really look like. thanks.

1470 sat, 750/730/700 sat ii's, 95.6 gpa, 20/325

I was thinking about it, but I don't know if I'll end up doing so or not. The people I've talked to said the kids at Schreyers are pretty stuck up- I might end up having a better time in one of the other schools, but I don't know. Anyone know a little more about Schreyers?

For the record, my stats aren't that awesome compared to a lot of other people's... 1320 SAT (690 verbal / 630 math), SAT II's not worth saying, 4.0 GPA, around 20/200 class rank

well i think you get accpeted to one of the regular colleges first from your applying to penn state main. then you apply to schreyers. schreyers has special dorms, get priority class scheduling, and better advisement. you also get smaller classes and probably more opportunities to do things like research as an undergrad.

I applied to schreyer's, but they really like state college ppl, so I think I have better odds than most. I can't give a true realistic answer to the question, knowing that they have that bias. schreyer's has a lot of out-of-classroom activities. my cousin is in it now, and he's building a plane. there are also programs abroad, last anywhere from a week to months that are specifically for schreyer's students. I'm pretty sure that if you decide to study abroad, they have money that will help cover the fees. early class registration is definitely a bonus.

as for the application, my stats were 1540 sat (780 m, 760 v), 800 Writing SAT II, 790 Math IIC, 700 US Hist. gpa 3.8ish unweighted, 4.6ish weighted. top 5% of class. anyway, they don't consider sat IIs from what the admissions guy told me. the essay is a huge part of the application, and can definitely determine if you get in or not. it's important that they see you're well-rounded, but at the same time it's a bonus if you have a special passion. from what I've heard, your sat scores don't matter so much if you're above the 1350 threshold... not sure about if you're under it. keep in mind that many ppl get accepted to schreyer's entering their jr year.

1480 (dual 740) 3.9 UW 4.6 W 8/145 (from sewickley, PA)

I applied and I'm pretty sure I'll get in, I wrote a killer essay about my eagle scout project. I'll be studying physics (not astro) with maybe math and chem minors. I'll have to see if I get into UVA first though.

perhaps I'll end up having some physics classes with you, gameguy. am considering doubling up w/ astro and physics (you automatically get a physics minor if you opt for the graduate study option in astro). it's not too many more courses, and I'm ahead of the game anyway since I've already taken classes.

hehe, awsome astrophysicist.
do you know when they send out offfers of admision to those who got accepted?
I applied before the priority deadline.

schreyers notifications are mid-february
