I know W&L has great pol.sci and history, but
How is science majors at W&L?
(esp. chemistry and chemical engineering)
Do most of the students go into graduate schools/industry?
Where can I find their statistics?
Does W&L have good pre-med/dental/pharmacy program?

I am planning on majoring in chemistry and have looked at several different schools including W&L. Although I really liked the feel of the W&L campus, I found the chemistry programs at Emory and Harvard much more appealing.

I am not really a part of the science department but I do know that stats for pre-med. The national average for students getting into one of their top three choices for Med schools is about 30%, and our rate is approximately 80-85%. Two years ago it was 91%, so we have very high stats when it comes to people getting in where they want to go.

How hard are the intro science classes?

I think that there are two types of intro sciences classes at W&L: those for students who believe they will be majoring in the sciences, and those for students who think they are interested in a different major. Many students at W&L come to school believing they will be pre-med, and the intro science classes are a good gauge for students if they want to continue in the sciences at W&L. Like all classes at W&L, hard work and effort is needed, whether a student is looking to be a science major or not.

In response to pja_928, the following link is for the chemistry page at W&L: [About the Chemistry Department :: Washington and Lee University](http://www.wlu.edu/x30946.xml)

All of the science departments are great, and students are very involved in research, especially through the R. E. Lee Research Program, through summer research at W&L or elsewhere, which looks great on your resume, whether to graduate school or for a job.

Realistically, could you major in biology (and do well) and be in a sorority?

yes. you can do well in any major and be in a sorority
