Science bowl:

Anyone out there participate in science bowl?

My team lost today in the regional. /:

We didn't expect to win necessarily, but we definitely thought we'd make it far, and we only made it to the first single elimination round. (Beforehand we went undefeated for 6 games) There was 1 round with 2 games afterwards and then the championship. We lost by 2 points; btw, to a team we had beat earlier by 58 points -.-

The worst part was DEFINITELY the reactions to our losing...

"Wow, I thought you guys were going to make it all the way!" (3 other teams told us that)

Team that actually beat us:
"I can't believe we beat that team!"
"We totally beat them by just guessing..."

Team that actually won the entire regional:
"We're SO lucky we didn't have to play you guys..."

Yeah, it hurt. It was like placing salt on our wounds. :/

Anyone else on a science bowl team; if so, how well did you guys do?

I participated in the Nevada Regional. My team didn’t make it very far, as my school is small and we were competing against many larger teams. But it was a very fun experience!

I’m trying to get into that next year.

@Dogbreath My school is very small too, but we made it decently far; don’t let that stop you!

@microphakia976 I’d definitely recommend it; it was SUCH a good experience… Well, except losing. Lol. But seriously, besides losing, I really loved it.

@Lesley: Aww, I’m really sorry to hear that. The science team I’m on is practicing hard with zero support from any of the teachers at our school because lack of funding/ability to teach science well. I hope that we do okay at districts. I know it hurts to lose, especially in science competition when you’ve studied hard and just got really unlucky one day.

@bioscience Yeah, it was really hard to lose… But at least I have another year… There were seniors on my team and now they won’t ever get to experience nationals… It really sucks. I hope your science bowl team does well though! I’ve heard it’s an awesome time at DC.

I just joined the Science Bowl. Any tips on preparing for competitions, like websites, books, study materials etc.? So far I have had physics and one term of chemistry in high school and no biology yet.

My school doesn’t have a science bowl :(

bump… Study and prep info for “Science Bowl”, anyone?

In the process of “Trying out” for science bowl, but since I am an eleventh grader I will most certainly make it, It’s really fun. last year our team was pretty close to making it to nationals but lost :`( This other local team wins our regional every year, what’s science bowl nationals like? I also second the nomination for study books, websites etc.

I might start a “science bowl” team, what does the science bowl entail?

The Department of Energy website has 5 sets of practice questions. Just google Department of Energy Science Bowl and click on the link to the high school page.
