I am a freshman(ninth grader). I am interested in science(especially biology), I am new to this country( immigrants from Taiwan this year), I have all As and I am taking biology courses offered from university on edx.org( online).
I will be participating in USABO next year.
Do u guys have any recommended biology or science competitions that is fun and will help my college application in the future?
Or any lab/hospital internships?
Ps: I live in South Pasadena, CA.
Really need some advice!
Hello! I am a current senior. This past summer, I conducted research (in computer science) as an intern at a university, and have participated in the Siemens competition. I will give you some information about science competitions and how to get an internship.
Some science competitions include: Siemens, Regeneron, Intel ISEF, JSHS, Google Science Fair, etc. These usually require the submission of a research paper on a research project you did, along with supplemental materials specific to each competition. Unless you have done a research project in the past, I suggest getting an internship so you can apply to these competitions next year.
Internship opportunities: Sorry, but I don’t live in California, so I don’t know any programs there. If you can travel to the east coast over the summer however, there is the NIH Student Internship Program, NIST Summer High School Intern Program, Johns Hopkins University ASPIRE, etc. There are also other institutions, like private companies, hospitals, etc., that may offer internships to high school students. If you do not get accepted into, or hear back from, any of programs, try sending emails to professors at a college or university close to you, asking if you can do research or lab work for them. If this doesn’t work out, see if you can do a project on your own or with a friend/classmate.
I wish you good luck in finding an internship, and I hope you have a great time at high school.
The thing is that I am a new immigrant( Taiwan), so I am not that good with English…
I mean I can read and write and also speak but not as fast as other native speakers tho. Will it be hard for me to do research papers ?
