science @ dartmouth

hey everyone.. i'm an international student from singapore who's gonna matriculate this fall (accepted 2 years back but deferred cos of national service) - just wish i'd known of this site earlier..! =) i'm planning to major in chemistry, just wondering how the sciences compare to the humanities at dartmouth.. i know dart's more "known" for it's strengths in the humanities rather than the sciences, any big loss?

another thing's the religious life at dart - could anyone help in this, like are there any churches around dartmouth or in hanover anyone knows about?

thanks!

Chrislim,

You might get some information on another thread on the board about religion.

However, I also intend to major in Chem (w/philosophy). I'd be equally interested to hear current D students opinion of the chem department.

One of my alumni interviewers was a chem major and graduated only two years ago. He seemed to absolutely love the department.

Thanks Scimmia

Bumpup

Churches of what denomination?

thanks scimmia..

wisconsinguy>> assemblies of god, charismatic.. i read briefly about some of the churches nearby dart that mainly cater to the students of the university, but besides what i read online i've got no clue how these churches are. you a student at dart?

fountainsiren, are you going to dartmouth this fall?

Yes, i can't wait. It's the only school i was really interested in and exactly what i wanted in a college.

There are a few churches in and around Hanover as well as the school chapel "Rollins Chapel" which does services for many religions.

The chemistry department is very good for undergrads, and there are many oppritunites to study other things with chemistry.

Dartmouth gets a bad rap for the sciences because they don't have the huge graduate research teams that win Nobel Prizes. However, the professors truly care about teaching - which is why they are at Dartmouth for the most part. I don't know much about the Physics department, but the classes I have taken in Chemistry and Biology have been great and the experiences I have had with them are better than alot of my friends at other places where the professors are often distant and find teaching to be a chore.

Little to do with chemistry, but interesting article relating to science at Dartmouth
