I was accepted to ND, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the science-education major offered? I am interested in this option because it is part of the preprofessional division of the college of science, but also because it would open opportunities for me to become a teacher if I decide not to go to medical school. Any thoughts on this program from current or prospective ND students?

If you haven’t already looked, the most complete information on the major is available in the [Bulletin of Information](http://registrar.nd.edu/BOI.shtml). Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone actually in this major even though I’m a bio major myself.

Keep in mind that you’ll end up taking about half of your classes at Saint Mary’s with this major.

There are definitely ways to pursue education without formally majoring in it; try looking at the programs offered by [the Institute for Educational Initiatives](http://iei.nd.edu/). The most well known of these is ACE, the Alliance for Catholic Education, which combines serving in under-privileged Catholic schools for two years with studying for a Master of Education degree.
