Can anyone recommend science classes for non-science majors?
Something for a student who has excellent math skills, but had very, very weak HS science teachers and almost no lab experience.
D will probably will ony take enough science to fulfill university requirements.

Do you mean for Core Req’ts or for her major? What is her major?

If you go to this link and click on the red tab that says Nat Sci, it will bring up the classes that fulfill the Core Req’t. Note the courses with the N designation in the right hand column.
How about Intro to Astronomy ?

What is her major? Her major may require or recommend a particular science.

I would definitely take astronomy whether I’m science or not major. Bama does have an observatory, which not all schools have. I would bet it’s not an easy course, as many “cool courses” usually don’t wind up being, but think of this, you probably didn’t get to take astronomy in high school, so why not take something new?

I forgot about the observatory…

D is planning on an International Studies degree. Astronomy was her first choice for science before I even posted this thread. But thought we’d ask in the event there was an unusual or creative way to fill this requirement.
Can anyone make any recommendations on specific professors?

I’m in Intro to AY right now. My prof is Dean Townsley, and I do not recommend him. He’s very scatter-brained and doesn’t explain well. I often leave class more confused than I was when I went in. However, I have lots of friends who have taken AY from other prof’s and they loved it, so don’t let that scare you away.

What profs did your friends have?

I’m not sure. Unfortunately, I can’t usually pick classes for prof’s, but just have to go with whatever works best in my schedule, which I think is going to be the case for most students.

My kids have been able to avoid a few that they don’t like. Sometimes it’s impossible, but with some schedule rearranging, it can sometimes be done.

If you get a chance, ask your friends which profs they had. :)
