Science major and letter of recommendation

Hi, I'm applying to a few top schools as a chemistry major. However, my best letters of rec will come from my English and Spanish teachers. Is this a problem?

I have a lot of demonstrated interest in writing and the humanities. I'm just worried about my science major and two letters of rec from humanities teachers.

I don’t think that matters at all unless you are applying to a technical school or engineering program that specifies the type of teacher it requires. The ability of an English teacher to write a compelling narrative of his/her opinions of you may work to your advantage. FWIW, don’t worry about a “declared” major as the majority of students change them. The adcoms are not so easily gamed as to think that you double your admissions chances by picking a major on your application to fill a quota. Unless you are a Siemen’s finalist or a Newberry award winning writer, the rigorous high school schedule admissions demands would make most students equally able to say they want to be a chemist or an English lit professor (even if the really want to go to professional school). Get letters from teachers who have something to add beyond your excellence in the classroom and don’t sweat it.

Thanks for the reply :)

I’ll second what YaleGradandDad said. I applied with intended major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, but my teacher recs were from an English teacher and my Chinese language teacher.

^Thanks for the extra support :)
