Hey… how many people here do / did science olympiad…

umm… i did it in middle school (only cause we had a really good team… aw coolidge middle school)… umm we were always 1st at states… and in 7th grade… we got 7th place at nationals in colorado springs and in 8th grade… we got 9th place at nationals at U delaware…

at nationals… i got 2nd in metric… 5th in water quality… and 3rd in mission possible…

we dont have it at our high school… and even if we did… i doubt id do it… the main reason why i did it in middle school was because some of my friends were doing it and i wanted to go to nationals (which is always a week off from school in may… and it always includes my birthday)… heh…

heck yeah i still do it. lol and i did go to nationals in colorado, even though my team really stunk. we didnt even do well at states, but since the nats was right in my home state, i came to watch all the events.

wow.. that year in colorado i nearly freaked.. cause at states.. our stupid lesbian head coach decided to buy our team purple uniforms with tie die down the left side.. and so i was terrified at the prospect of having a similar uniform at nationals..

they turned out to be grey.. so it was alrite i suppose.. but the day of nationals i nearly threw up cause of the altitude.. plus it was really early .. i hadnt slept.. and i had eaten candy all night long

haha good old Science Olympiad - the competition that looks like the International Science Olympiads. Last year was so dissapointing since we were a hair away from reaching nationals, but I had run out of time serving as captain. I was bitter that our HS team never made it to the nationals.

dw - haha!!! yeah i remeber how many of you east-coasters couldnt handle our altitude. lol that is why the real Olympians (the sports kind not science) actually train in colorado for reasons like that. lol. Dude, do you remember that one guy during the opening ceremony that did all those science experiments/demos? one of his experiments consisted of some guy inhaling helium gas, and then another type of gas which got him to sound like darth vader. and then he had that wicked light show thing with fire or something (i dont remember the exact) haha he was great!

What were you guys' events throughout your years on the team?

Me-

Rocks and Minerals
Water Quality
Bottle Rockets (briefly.. i had a scheduling conflict for states.. so i was taken out really early in the year once the states schedule came out..)
Mission Possible
Pentathalon
Reach for the Stars
Dynamic Planet
Metric (haha at nationals in colorado springs.. we came in 2nd.. we lost the tiebreaker to the 1st place team by 0.04 hundredths of a second.. but it was all good.. i had been on the event the entire year.. but my partner got put on a couple days before the competition.. cause there was a scheduling conflict with my former partner on another event.. in 8th grade.. however.. i came in 53rd lol.. cause of a majour mixup with numbering on the answer sheet.. haha)

yea wombat.. i totally remember that.. that means if you were at the awards ceremony.. you saw me (if you were paying attention that is. lol) before anyone on this board ever saw me..

my team actualyl took a tour of the air force academy.. that was my first college tour.. haha

dw - man does that make me feel special lol. even with the small chances, i wouldn't be suprised if i did in fact bump into you. especially during that one chaotic thing afterwards where we all traded stuff. i vagely remember that. and wasn't there some parade or something too? if you were in that, lol im sure i saw you then-haha!

haha sweet. man nationals was so much fun-i wish i could go again but my team really sucks. are we the only ones here on this board who do science olympiad? my guidance coucelor told me that i should NOT write an essay about that because colleges always get tons of student who write about that. wierd maybe i should have for the penn app

I do it. I'm doing forensics and Fermi (AH!) this year. The NJ states were ALMOST as initmidating as this forum. Some Chinese kids had a hand-carved cello! A HAND CARVED FULLY FUNCTIONAL CELLO! We had a little xylophone and pan flute of PVC. :(

haha. i did the sound of music too. cept i didnt really care about the competition that much, so i just made a series of jugs. it was really funny cause i looked like a demented hillbillie.
