Science Olympiad

Hello, I am a parent of a student who is involved with Science Olympiad at school. She is studying and working very hard. However, I see that no one else on her school’s team seems to care at all (including the teacher). Is Science Olympiad a completely “team” activity, meaning it doesn’t matter if my daughter tries hard if no one else on the team does? If my daughter does well on her topics, is there a possibility that she could be individually recognized? Thank you in advance.

Science Olympiad is a team AND an individual/partner event. It’s possible to win medals (Gold, Silver, or Bronze) at the state competition in your individual events, but it’s not possible to go to the national competition unless your entire team is #1 (by adding all of the individual event ranks with the lowest score winning.)

Hope that helps!
