Science/Pre-med courses?

I am an incoming first year and am considering following the pre-med track. I plan on taking Chem 1410 and Biology 2010 my first semester, but I am confused about the course registration. It appears that Chem 1410 involves a lecture class, a lab, a 3 hour weekly discussion, and a lab lecture, while Biology 2010 involves a lecture class, a lab, and a lab lecture.

Should I schedule the lab lecture and lab on the same day? What is the best way to space out all this extra class time? Are the lab lectures and discussions mandatory? Basically I just need advice on how best to sort out all this information.

Thank you!

It depends on your personal preference. I always tried to have my discussion sections on different days than my lectures. I would say try not to have more than three classes scheduled in a given day. It is best to space things out…especially your first semester.

Also try your best to schedule your classes back to back with no more than an hour between classes. By scheduling them an hour apart you have a nice break. But, if it’s more than that you may try to head home only to head back to grounds shortly there after. Trust me, it can become a real pain and the last thing you want is to be heading back and forth to grounds on any given day.

Discussion sections are mandatory…they are usually taught by a TA. Usually the TA will be the one grading your assignments so it is best to attend and participate regularly.

Thanks, that is very helpful. Does it matter when I schedule the lab lecture related to the lab? Just wondering if the lab lecture contains information specific to the lab and whether it would be better to hear that info before or after I do the lab. Thanks!

I think that is strictly up to you.

I would go on ahead and schedule it after the lab to be on the safe side. You will have maybe two weeks after classes start to shift your schedule around should you feel the need.

Good luck!!
