how are the science programs ranked at bc? i eventually want to go to medical school…

med school = gpa + mcat
many many people want to go to med school. med school is very very competitive.

they’re fairly decent, about 75% get admitted to medical school. they also have a program where sophmores can gain admittance to tuft’s med school (avoid the stress in your last year).

no way is their med school 75% acceptance

“The program’s attention to detail has paid off for the students who make it through the application process. In 2005-06, 73 percent of the Boston College seniors who applied to medical schools were admitted. Nationally, the acceptance rate to medical school stood at 47 percent in 2006.”

[University Pre-Medical Program Enrollment Continues to Grow](Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences | Boston College)

There is one reason for this below elite average med school admission percent. BC premed does not kick people off the the program regardless of your GPA. Several colleges and universities, in order to maintain high admission rate, kick out students who don’t meet a certain threshold.

“in order to maintain high admission rate,”

Do you mean LOW admission rate?

No, he did mean HIGH admission rate – i.e., the % of students from that particular college getting into med school.

Colleges like to brag about that statistic, so many of them limit which undergraduates can apply to med schools (for example, by requiring a certain minimum undergraduate GPA). Students that are not likely to get into med schools are therefore “washed out” and don’t adversely impact the med school admission statistic.

Thanks, I stand corrected, and I see it more clearly now.
