I've recently taken another act and got the same previous score, a 30C. However, the only thing holding me from a mid 30's score is my dreadful science section - I got a 26 on it and a 28 last time. Does anyone have any advice on how I can prepare for the October ACT?

A lot of times, students who want to achieve high scores think better understanding naturally equates to higher scores. That is not the case in ACT. The test makers for ACT purposely designed the test in which time is an undeniable factor.

For me personally, I jump right to the questions in science. I don’t read anything unless I have to (if the passage directs me to it). Most of the times, the extraneous information are there to confuse/strike fear in your heart. Don’t get played, but play the test.

I went from a 21 to 35 in six months simply by doing practice tests. You should try taking several, and see where that takes you. Do remember to go to the questions first, though. Also, something that sounds weird but really helped my speed is using my finger–as in, if the question said “table 1” I’d put my finger on table 1 and continue reading the question, then refer to the table after I was done.
