I'm having trouble finishing the science portion of the ACT. There's always 8-10 questions that I am forced to bubble in straight answers.

Would it be more beneficial to just rush straight to the questions? I'm barely skimming the text already.

I already know that the science section is more of interpreting graphs than actual science. I only manage my time efficiently for one or two passages until I see foreign terms and for some reason that slows me down, especially on the questions.

Also, I am taking the writing portion for the first time this Saturday. I have taken AP Language and Composition last year so I have some experience. What tips do you have?

Lastly, is the KAPLAN online prep worth the money? I have a 29 composite at the moment and I want at least a 32. Also, I do not know whether I should get the prep courses or the tutoring as I do not know which would benefit me more.

go straight to the questions for data passages, read through the experiments passages really quickly, and read through the fighting scientists quickly also make sure to spend only 4 mins on data, 5 mins on experiments, and 6 mins on fighting sci. you should have extra 1-2 mins doing this.

over the past couple months I have taken Kaplan online prep. it is very expensive but well worth it. it gives very detailed score reports as well as very detailed answers for every question even ones you got wrong. there are videos you watch to learn everything and some of the things are review and some are completely new! it is a great and interactive prep course. they guarantee a raised score. I got a 21 on my first practice test with them and bumped that up to lower 30’s over the months. I feel very good about the recent ACT september test, just as well as I did on higher grade practice tests. to raise your score on the ACT you have to truly want to. Become engaged in your prep just like any normal class in school. the most important skills to raise your score on the ACT are not simple things some book can teach you, they are all about your mental strength. during the test you have to feel confident and you can’t let your mind wander one bit. and another is time management, which comes with practice. so if time is your issue Kaplan has 6 practice tests to help you with. but there are many other good books as well.
