Sciences Po Columbia BA

Hi guys, bonjour

I don’t have much personal knowledge of the program, but I do think that your scores are a little low for Columbia. Seeing that you’re applying for a science program, focus on getting high scores for that math section. Also, work on your essays…they’re more important than scores, I think. Think about your interests, passions, and how those interests make program perfect for you …and write about it in the essay. Since you’re an international student, I’m afraid that it’ll be more competitive. J’espere qu’il est utile! :slight_smile: Bonne chance!

^ i doubt she’s applying to science considering Sciences po is mostly known for its social sciences

But yeah, OP, i was wondering the same thing. I’m also considering applying there but my scores are pretty low for columbia (well they’re all ok except my writing score D:) i have a friend, though, who applied to sciences po reims campus last year, and she loves it there so far!

jw, why would you rather go to reims than the other campuses (obviously you’re interested in something relating to north america) but jw.

how the hell are you going to do stem with a 600m?

^ She’s not. Sciences Po is the premier French political science school. I assume that’s what she’s interested in studying at Columbia as well.

Sciences Po is an abbreviation of Sciences Politiques, a university for social sciences, so I wouldn’t be focusing on the ‘hard’ sciences.
I’m really interested in the Reims campus because I’ve gone to a French/American school for pretty much my whole life. Also, I’m interested in becoming a journalist, and it would be my dream to correspond between the US and France, reporting for the French press and for American news.
@therecordstore, do you know why was your friend interested in Reims?
I’m not sure whether my second choice is Menton (Middle eastern studies) or Le Havre (focusing on relations with Asia). What campus are you interested in?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Bonjour!

Je suis une

@viramay, je suis franco-am

I do really want to spend time at Columbia, it’s why the dual BA interested me in the first place! (There was a time in my life when I wanted to apply to the Ivies, and Columbia was my favourite Ivy :)) although if I did apply for the dual BA, my first choice would be Menton. I’m undecided on what my second choice would be… on one hand, the idea of learning an Asian language and doing Asian studies does not interest me (Le havre); on the other hand, I would hate to spend time at a uni in France at an anglophone campus! (Reims).

McGill is probably one of the most competitive unis (if not THE most competitive uni) in Canada to get into. But I can’t really judge personally since I’m currently completing an IB (international baccalaureate) diploma, and McGill’s requirements for IB students are low in comparison to unis in the UK (where I’ll also be applying).

@millie12 sorry! i don’t know exactly why she applied there but i know that her sister went to the American university of Paris and plus we both met at a summer program in Paris so… I’d say she has some interest in France :slight_smile: Plus she’s American so it just may be that… or not… je ne suis pas sûr…

The campuses is where I’m having a problem because I really want to do the new Afrique program à Paris mais… it’s not offered. My second favorite would be Menton mais il faut parler arabe ou français… :confused: so I’m not really sure if I fit the criteria for applying there. I guess I’d apply for Reims but my interests aren’t really americo-european focused, but rather… anywhere but! I don’t really know. Also, I spent five weeks in the south of France this past summer and I can’t really imagine myself living there. It would be a complete adjustment. I don’t really know right now but we’ve time yet.

can we use common app to apply (through the columbia supplement) or do we have to apply directly to columbia?

Hey, it looks like Sciences Po now has a new dual BA which looks really cool: [UCL ESPS Dual Degree Prospective Students](<a href=“UCL European & International Social & Political Studies | UCL European & International Social & Political Studies - UCL – University College London”>UCL European & International Social & Political Studies | UCL European & International Social & Political Studies - UCL – University College London)

Hi – my daughter is also completely undecided. US High School, but French – I understand from many people in her case, the question is really what is ‘worth’ more, ie a US diploma or a French one? It is such a tough question. For my daughter, she would have loved to go to the Paris campus, not sure about classes being in English in Reims, but more specifically, she does not want to do the Columbia core curriculum during her junior year with ‘the rest of the freshman’ when she’d be busy focusing on her major/s.

It’s truly a tough decision. She is thinking of deferring till graduate school and applying directly.

@ therecordstore

I understand what you mean; the campuses are my problem too! I really want to do the programme at Dijon, because I’m more interested in east European issues, but the dual BA isn’t offered there. Like you, my second choice is Menton, mais je ne suis pas sûr si je veux apprendre l’arabe. (But I speak French, so the French part isn’t an issue for me!)

& You apply directly to Columbia using the application on this website: [Dual BA Program Between Columbia University and Sciences Po](SPO Dual BA)

@Britinusa
The UCL-Sciences Po BA sounds amazing! & I think I love it a lot better because I can study at Dijon!

But unfortunately, I won’t be able to apply, since I’m applying for other UK unis already, and I don’t think I can really add the ESPS part to my PS :)

Yes, that is a bit of an issue, because if you already have a ppe kind of ps then adding esps is a bit tricky. However, I’ve browsed the student room forums about this and it seems that you don’t necessarily need anything very detailed. A lot of people mix ppe with esps and so ucl is used to this. Who knows. Anyways, don’t apply because I’m worried there’ll be too many applicants :-)!

Haha I’m actually a languages applicant, not PPE, so fitting ESPS is slightly more difficult for me :)
