Sciences Po Columbia Dual BA 2017 Entry

Don’t stress too much, you probably won’t hear back until the end of the month (around the 30th of March, I think that’s when we heard). Good luck to everyone! Trust me, everything will work out

Anyone apply for financial aid here? Have they requested any missing documents or anything like that?

I applied for financial aid and they haven’t said anything was missing!

I haven’t received any such request either. Does anyone know if the program is going to be giving us an estimation for financial aid in Years 3 and 4 at Columbia as well, or do they just initially inform you about your Sciences Po aid package?

They should give out a four year estimate

@hemingway123 @thedecidingfate is correct; when you get your acceptance, they give you the financial aid and costs for all four years.

Only a matter of days now! You should find out sometime next week, I think! Dean Awn (dean of the School of General Studies at Columbia who will unfortunately be stepping down at the end of the year) visited each of the Sciences Po campuses last week, and he told us that the incoming class has a lot of promise; he spoke very highly of you guys. So you should all feel proud of yourself regardless of whether you get accepted or not! I remember how it felt last year in your shoes, and my heart goes out to you. Best of luck to you all!

Any chance they will give decisions out tomorrow? what do you guys think?

Haha that would be nice but I don’t think so. Not before monday I believe. Now, however, the time of non-stop mail checking begins…

@thedecidingfate @AllisonNelson thanks guys! It’s so nice of Dean Awn to say that. Hope we get some good news next week!

Not to stress you out but my bet is you’ll get results tomorrow, if I had to pick a day. You’ll defs get it by the end of the week/ivy day, but really this is a great real-life schrodinger’s cat! you’ve already been accepted (or rejected) but you don’t know until you get that cryptic email telling you that a change has been made to your application but you have to go online to see it so you go online and log in and then click through 52 links and log in again and open the letter and it starts off “on behalf of the committee…” or something like that and you’re thinking oh no I got rejected but actually you’re in! I hope that makes you feel better? The only thing I can tell you is that you’ll all get a generic and rather cold email and will have to log on to see the results, except if they change that for this year. So good luck, and fingers crossed that you all get in!

@vossari thanks man. It’s been great seeing your posts here and on the wbb pages. I got admitted to USC, but sadly not to WBB. It was my first choice since the beginning, but weirdly enough the weeks leading up to my notification, I grew a little disenfranchised with it. Began thinking I would love to do more political/environmental studies instead of business. Thank god for this program, where I don’t have to declare until year 3 :). Is the financial aid really as bad as everyone seems to believe? On the General Studies school page it says scholarships are awarded primarily for merit? And I would’ve assumed that dual ba students would be very high-achievers…but I guess everyone at Columbia is too lmao.

@vossari thank you for the continual support! We’re all so incredibly anxious, but that helped ease some of it haha

@stadtlohnlieber you’re very welcome  Can’t recall if I had mentioned this but I had applied to the WBB (and gotten in but doesn’t really matter since I didn’t go!). Don’t take it so harshly, I have a friend who got into Oxford for PPE, UCL, Sciences Po - literally everywhere, but got rejected from Bocconi! And Bocconi is way easier than all of those, so you never know what goes into an admissions decision. I can’t comment on financial aid as I don’t receive any (perks of being an EU citizen), I do have friends that receive financial aid and haven’t heard many complaints, but everyone complains for some reason so that very well may be true. Dual BA students are many things, but they are, in my opinion, primarily rich. You have very few people on financial aid and if you can afford to pay 4 years of this, you’re at least slightly well-off. Not my favourite thing bc it kind of keeps you in a bubble and is so far from Columbia, where you’ll literally have people on food stamps (not to say Columbia is that great either, 25% of the student population comes from families making 450K+ a year), but Sciences Po is a pretty bourgeois environment. That having been said, Reims is a pretty cheap place to live and you don’t really get a feeling of difference between the students bc everyone lives in the same places, eats at the same places, and it’s pretty chill, so I don’t mean to scare you off. But sadly I don’t have an answer for financial aid! I do know you’ll get a clearer answer with your admissions decision, and Patrick Martinez is usually very helpful for any questions you have

What that time should decisions be posted? 5pm EST? Thank you

@thedecidingfate I can’t remember exactly the time, but I got my results between 4 and 8 PM EST or so (I checked at the end of my shift at work).

We’re all excited for you guys and wish you the best of luck! All of the current Dual BAbies are eager to meet the newest batch!

Last year the results were out March 28th at 5:15pm New York Time. That was a Monday night, so maybe tonight?

@stadtlohnlieber I was quite surprised, and pleasantly so, by how much financial aid I got! I’m pretty sure that Columbia gives a certain amount based on need (although they don’t promise to meet it 100% I think) but they also definitely do merit aid as well. Unfortunately it’s hard to predict how much you will get… But keep in mind that it’s a small program so chances are, if you needed to, you could negotiate with the admissions/financial aid people and get results!

@stadtlohnlieber I’m with @lion4546 - I also got a significant amount of financial aid, which is super helpful for Columbia!!

I woke up and had my email waiting for me around 8am GMT + 2 time so it’ll probably be sent out at night US time? don’t stress it too much, for all we know they could send them on friday or even next week!

I got the email last year on Monday March 28th, 2016 at 5:15 pm EST titled “Important: Your Application Status-Columbia University School Of General Studies.” It directed me to log in to the status portal. Good luck you all.
